Is the Xterra the next XJ?

As they are getting cheaper, I feel like the Xterra is becoming the next XJ. Cheap to get, will wheel pretty good stock. Cheap to get on 33's.

Define cheaper...in my area they are still going for a decent price, my 2010 X was $14K two years ago...I def overpaid but did so due to wanting one forever

What year did the 4Runner go uni-body chassis? Curious.

Prediction: The 2nd gen Xterra develops a premium in the used market and becomes, in relative terms, more expensive with time.

Caveat: Another vehicle like the WD-21 Pathfinder, earlier 4Runners or the 2nd generation Xterra is designed and released on to the market.

Unlikely to happen: Why? US CAFE rules.

The 4Runner is still body on frame. It's one of the last.

13-15 Pro4X models will appreciate slightly. Especially in low mileage unmolested form. But no, I don't think we'll see FJ pricing on them.

That aside, it's a Nissan. All others will depreciate like there's no tomorrow.

1st gen is pretty much there. I think 2nd gen still has a good 10 years, especially since some are still "only 4 years old". You can find running 1st gens for <$1000 without too much difficulty.

In all honesty I was dead set on getting a '99 XJ to build. No lie, I looked at or drove 14 different '99s. Something just wasn't right on each one but was getting itch crazy and the cash was burning my leg.

I was bs'n with a contractor at work who drove a 2G X. I went to lunch with him that day, a week later the second one I looked at I bought.

The XJ always felt too small on the inside to me. I'm a pretty big guy. And whenever I got in one I just felt a bit claustrophobic. And then there's the unibody thing. And the "electrics are garbage" thing.

Reminds me of the Nissans in the 1970s and 1980s. Used to rust out in no time up here in harsh winter land. They seemed to last longer in Africa.
My first vehicle was an '86.5 Nissan hardbody. @280k miles, with the two windows wedged up cause if you moved the crank they'd fall into the door frame, front end was toe'd in so bad you had to constantly steer it down the road and absolutely zero brakes left on it, I still got $500 for it. Loved that truck.. Never forget the car you got your first piece of ass in~

Its more of buying something cheap than can wheel out of the box. Like stated before, 1st Gens can be bought on the cheap, conditioning depending, and i see 2nd gens going for a few thousand all the time. Its not a bad thing, and I may be biased since I wheel a Nissan, as similar aged 4runners, and grand cherokees, etc are out there.

I'd like to think the X could be the new XJ buuut I can't see it becoming as popular and getting more aftermarket like the one with a Jeep brand emblem on it ya know?

There just wasn't the volume of them produced for them to get that popular.
