TPMS stripped shrader valve issue

Last outing I noticed that my rapid bleeder wasn't engaging the tire valve correctly. I bled them old school with a screw driver and light pressure and thought nothing of it....until i needed to air up my tires. Regardless of the tool i'm having issue inflating the tire.

What are my options for replacing the valve? Do I need to replace the TPMS? Can I pull the TPMS and put in simple tire stems and trick the computer to not throw a trouble light? cheapest quote i got was $75 a tire.

The valve is part of the TPMS sensor. Some valve stem tools have the ability to clean up the outer threads if they are lightly stripped

You can get some sensors that have a rubber replicable valve stem in them.

There are people that removed all of their TPMs sensors and placed in a pressurized pipe in the truck somewhere. Not sure how that would work to trick the sensors to not throw the TPMs light

Are the threads messed up or is the valve core leaking?

The threads don't affect the ability to hold air so I'm thinking you might have a leaky valve stem core, that happened to me a few years ago and it was basically leaking air very, very slowly. If that's it they are really easy to replace, it's as simple as unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one, you just need a valve core removal tool + a pack of new cores like this.

If the issue is internal I'd say get rid of the TPMS, it's expensive to replace and the X only has the most basic version of it anyway. Mine stopped working correctly in 07 and a few years later I removed the gauge cluster to cover the annoying light for it. If you check your pressures from time to time (if you're airing up/down this is a given anyway) it's no issue. Not to mention our tires have such large sidewalls if a tire gets low on air you're going to have a hard time not noticing the drag on the low side.

the valves hold air but i can't unscrew them. Its like they're trapped. I was at rausch 2 weeks ago and they had newer air valves which filled the tires much better than last time. I'm going to keep an eye on the tires for now. I was quoted 60 a tire to replace the valves. I might consider new valves when I get new tires in the spring.

Personal opinion, ditch all worthless tp sensors and get standard valves. Especially if wheeling on a regular basis. They’re worthless. Any person worth their salt can look at a tire and tell if it’s low when needed.

Ditch them and keep a tire pressure gauge in the truck. If the light annoys you, electrical tape.

Man, $60/tire is more than I would have expected those to be. Maybe that's the if you're not having any other work done price.

That's what replacement sensors cost at like Discount tire. I had them put one in the spare in the wife's Pathy so I could 5 tire rotate.

As far as the system in the X, it's garbage. I don't have sensors anymore. Just regular valve stems. And this winter I'm going to pull the cluster and remove the led for the idiot light.
