HIIII, please help!

Hey y’all! I have a 2004 Xterra and I need some help. The timing belt was just replaced and my car has been a shiat show ever since. My mechanic can’t seem to figure it out. My car is now jerking like it’s losing power and has the worst acceleration. I feel like I’m driving a Barbie car at this point. It also keeps randomly shutting off. It will start back up again but it usually dies a few times before it will stay on. I need to know what to tell my mechanic to do. Oh, and when I first start my car the oil light stays on for a tiny bit and then goes away. Any help is appreciated ☺️

Well, that’s what I thought too but I have brought it back in a couple times and multiple people have looked at it and it appears everything should be fine.

Distributor may be 180* out, but that shouldn't been replaced with a timing belt. Cap and rotor, yeah, but not the entire distributor. Plugs should be done at the same time (all 100K items). Double check your wire routing

Also, they _shouldn't messed with the o2 plugs, but if they're swapped it could run rough.

This is about as far as I'm willing to go without seeing it myself. If you let us know where you are, we might have a member near by who could help.

Other weird thing is if you have a crack in your intake tube, that'll cause issues. Had mine come out of the dealer with the rear resonator detached and it would barely run unless I gave it a heavy foot.

I live in North Salt Lake, UT. If there is someone who can look at it, that would be amazing! I have already paid my mechanic so if he knows what he needs to do, it won’t cost me anything extra.

So, at some point the fuel filter was clogged or something and they fixed that. Today, the service engine light came on so I dropped it back off at the mechanic.

Greetings. I hope you are able to get your problem sorted out in short order.

My only offering . . . . if it was running fine before the timing belt swap, then it's ALMOST certain the problem is related to something your mechanic did (or failed to do). Could be a coincidence, but I sure wouldn't bet money on it.

When i had mine replaced it was running rough and going into limp mode (losing power) because 2 O2 sensors were swapped between banks @Muadeeb posted a pic.

There should be 2 that go almost straight back and 2 that go back and right. The plugs cant be swapped on the same bank but they can be swapped between banks. If youve driven much they might be fried but if you plug them in correctly it SHOULD run fine. We dont have inspections here in SC so I still have a check engine from them being bad but haven't had a problem since.

this sounds familiar.... ive seen this happen to a rig at Went Windrock. it was some intake sensor (maf, throttle position, or something). it was put in backwards and cause a jerking and lurch with a crazy rough idle. in some cases i think guys take the whole intake manifold off to do the swap so its possible that something may have been put back wrong. if its a sensor than it should be no big deal.

this make sense to anyone else? i dont remember all the sensors off the top of my head atm.

Okay guys, he left me a voicemail saying he was able to pull the codes. He said, sorry if I misunderstood him, it’s the knock sensor, mass airflow sensor and an idle air control valve? Would these be things that can happen after you replace the timing belt or are these other things that were wrong with my car?

Knock sensor is a nonissue it's a common issue and unless you sc don't worry about it. One of the other 2 sensors could be the problem. I would have him look for vacuum leaks. Check the air intake tube for cracks another common issue.
