Thats the perk of working for the "government". You make less than the private sector for the same work, but in some cases you have better benefits.
Im okay with it honestly. But I am also at work. My "govt" job (for the county) gives you a floating holiday. One day off with pay to take off any time for any "holiday" you choose. That way you can have robert E lee day off or Martin Luther King day, or sandwich day, whatever you prefer. We also have a stock set of holidays we are closed like the banks, but not stuff like this.
