What makes a fan clutch not engage?

What would stop the fan clutch from engaging? The little bottom piece of the fan shroud is missing would that be the problem?

there is a viscous clutch in the fan body (just behind the blades) when it fails the fan will not turn at the same speed as the engine. just replace it. you should find one for 35-85 bucks. there is about 8 bolts if my memory is correct. should take about 25 to 30 minutes to replace.

Yeah i replaced the clutch twice. I Just bled the system and drove it around for about 20 mins and it didn’t overheat so we will see. Maybe starter is grinding now though smh

Make sure you get to operating temp, then kick the ac on as well while driving. Find a good long hill and push it.
I have managed to kill 3 fan oem fan clutches somehow. I put in an aftermarket one and now I sound like a jet engine taking off but it stays cool.
