03 Seat Belt Light Constantly On

My daughter wrecked her 03 Xterra in June 2017 and the passenger air bag deployed. Insurance did the repairs and when we got it back the air bag light was on. The shop that did the repairs said to drive it and that it should go out over time. Well, it hasn't. I took it back to the shop and they traced it to the passenger side seat belt pre-tentioner and wanted another $320 to fix it! We have already signed the release from the insurance company so filing for more money isn't an option.

I pulled a pre-tentioner from an 04 Xterra that the air bag hasn't deployed and installed it but the light is still on. One of my neighbors has the high dollar, auto shop code reader and his unit shows no codes.

So...Any help with determining what is wrong with the seat belt system and clearing the light would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

May just be a stuck code. To clear it, do the following:
1) Turn key on
2) SRS light will light, after 7 seconds, turn key off
3) wait 3 seconds
4) repeat 1-3 3 times
5) turn key to on

Light will light again for 7 seconds, then display a blink code. If you get a regular off/on/off/on repeating pattern, then you should be cleared. Turn key off and the light should stay off next time you turn on. If you get a long/short pattern, there's a problem. Report back with the number of longs and shorts and we can go from there.

OK...tried this numerous times, at least 10, and nothing has changed. The light remains constantly on and after completing this procedure it will not blink to give me a blink code or clear it. What would cause this light to stay on all the time?

Check your airbag fuse, should be #9 inside the vehicle and 10A. After that, I'm not too sure. Just to make sure all the airbags and sensors were replaced and connected.

Checked fuse and it is good. Can you tell me or send me a link to where the sensor connections are? The air bags were replaced. Might just be that the mechanic didn't connect them.

Was the air bag control unit under the center console replaced also? It is a one time use part once it sets the air bags off it is done and will need to be replaced. Every time I put air bags in a vehicle at work the had them go off during a collision I also replaced the air bag control module also called air bag diag unit

Reporting back...It took me two weeks to get to this but Nissan3161 was correct in that it was the air bag control module underneath the center console. I went to our local junk yard and pulled one out of a 2004 Xterra that had not had the air bags deployed...$12.00! Took the dash/center console apart and replaced it and WA LA...No more air bag light! Much appreciation to this forum, you guys that respond to help us rookies out and especially to Nissan3161 taking the time to stick with me until fixed!
