I've been receiving some questions/compliments on my retrofit on here as well as some other forums so I thought I'd start a thread with some pics and info so people have a better idea of what the project entails. I don't have a how-to specific for the the X but I'll post the resources I used and hopefully in the future someone can do a write up.

If you have a 2002-2004 you will be able to retrofit your stock round headlights.

If you have a 2000-2001 you will need to purchase a set of clear headlights like these:

theretrofitsource.com was where I purchased my projectors as well as where I found every and any bit of retrofitting information I need. I purchased the Morimoto Mini Stage III H1 kit because these projectors will be the best fit for inside the X headlight housings. They are a fairly small design and mostly bolt as opposed to the other projectors that will require you to cut out the back of the headlight housing:

This is a complete kid that comes with projectors, shrouds, bulbs, ballasts, relay and everything else needed. If you already have and HID kit or prefer a different type you can purchase just the projectors and shrouds. These projectors are BI-Xenon so you will have high and low beams.

Here is a link on theretrofitsource.com that will answer any questions about the benefits of projectors or almost any other question you would have:

I used a how-to I found on their website for the Morimoto Mini projectors that was helpful and covered all the steps other than a few modifications that are vehicle specific:

Here are a couple pics of my X, Il try and get some better pics when I am home from school this weekend:

After I painted the shrouds and housings:

I went with 5000K bulbs that are pure white:

The light output is incredible with a smooth cutoff and no glare to oncoming traffic:

I know RacerXXL has done this mod so chime in if I missed anything and if you have any other questions just ask or send me a PM. I hope this helps out!

Yes for the 2002-2004 it's the same concept except you can just use your stock round lights since they already have a clear lens. Just saves you $100

Great info...... but, I would like to see some of the vehicle specific stuff. And someone needs to do this on the 1.5 gen, while taking some pictures during the install.:D

When Im home this weekend Il snap a couple pics of the back of my headlights. With the 1.5 gen I don't believe there is any cutting required but with my headlights I cut a ring off where the bulb inserts into the housing on the back side so the projector would bolt in flush.

Thats exactly what I was gonna ask was for some shots of the back of the headlights.

Also what was you overall cost?

Adapter Plate: did you need an adapter plate?

Projectors: LHD (North American Standard)RHD (UK, Australia, etc) Which one did you choose?

Shrouds: Which did you have

Wire Harness: did you order and use one?
