    Lanterns and Stoves

Yes- lamp worked with calcium carbide in 'chunk' form, available on the internet. Carbide in the bottom, water in the top. Valve feeds water slowly to the carbide, which produces acetylene gas, which is ignited by the sparker on the reflector. In my experience, they would go for three hours on a...

    Lanterns and Stoves

Don't know if this qualifies as camping related, but years ago I did use these around camp... 1930's 'Guys Dropper' miner's carbide light.

Thanks, TerryD. You have saved me from being (more than the usual) baffled and confused!

    Front shocks

Set up: 2013 Xterra, M-205 differential, Nisstec coilover (not extended type) w/650# springs, set at the lowest setting which nets me 1/2 to 3/4 in lift after winch, bumper, and armor. The set up is perfect for my needs, so I'm not looking to upgrade- No T-swap, lift or extended travel coil...

    Wet box molding

Brunnie- thanks for steering me to Amazon, I don't think I would have found the right search term without difficulty. Got a roll of the 6 mm (the 8 mm would have worked fine also), it installed quickly and easily once I cleaned the old molding out of the crack. Results were good, I'm not ashamed...

    The Dumb Question Thread

Thanks for the info! I'll look in to the narrower tire option I re-geared to 3.36 when I went to a 226 differential, so I ought to be OK there. The shop will put one on the front next week so I can see how much the tire will rub, it doesn't look like it will be too bad. Fortunately, this truck...

    The Dumb Question Thread

2013 s. I'm pretty sure of the answer to this, but I thought it best to confirm it with the experts... Can I run a 285 75 16 tire on stock rims? Also, how much of a hit on gas mileage will I take going from a 32 to a 33 in tire? Going on a 3 day Moab trip with a group in October, since I am...

    Wet box molding

Thanks for the heads up on that. I couldn't find anything suitable at Home Depot. I'll order some and give it a try, if it doesn't work I'll go with caulk.

    Wet box molding

The molding on the front of the wetbox (2013 S) fell off. I found that the part is not available from Nissan, unless I want to buy a whole new wetbox assembly for a measly $1200-obviously not an option. My question is this: is that strip of rubber important for any reason? I have no problem...

    Empty Your Pockets!

Message me and I will give you a contact for a guy in New Mexico that refurbishes and sells (with a lifetime warranty) old watches, usually very inexpensive compared to antique stores. I seldom see pocket watches in any of our local antique stores, and when I do they are very pricey. I don't...

    Empty Your Pockets!

I prefer my watch to be more like me... old and unreliable. I may be one of the only humans left that uses the watch pocket on my pants to hold an actual watch! This is an 1881 Waltham.
