Reached out to a couple manufacturers.

This was Yukon's reply:

We do not do 1 off shafts, minimum production run of an axle shaft is 200 units per part#

I show we have logged 2 other requests for that part# in the last 5 years, so it is not some thing that would be considered a viable product at this time due to the lack of return on investment.

There are companies that do offer services to produce 1 off hardened shafts, such as mossier, dutchman, strange etc. at this point that would be about the only option I could recommend.

I have logged the request, so if we do see an uptick in demand it might get produced

Crawling up an obstacle. I don't think it spun a tire, at least not a high speed tire spin with a sudden grab. It was locked up hard and climbing nicely at steady low throttle, then boom.

It was in a hard left hand turn but it's really sandy there with a little ledge on the driver's side. Usually crawl up to it and a little bump when the driver's rear approaches the ledge spins the nose around the pulls you right up. About 1/2 way up the ledge it exploded. I wasn't full throttle or bouncing or anything I would normally expect to cause something like this.
Yeah. Mine and my friend's were both wheelspin, trying to get traction. Spinning tires + sudden traction = boom for us

I would honestly expect this from a tire buried below a rock face that wasn't climbing but it was going right up the ledge. No undercut there.

Dropped the driveshaft to check the pinion. The pinion bearings are fine but that Dorman CV joint I replaced in 2020 is shot. Advance warrantied it and a new one should be here tomorrow.

Gotta order my carrier bearings tonight and probably start cleaning up my diff cover this week so it's ready to go.

Seems ok.

Found out there's two designs of 4 spider lockers.

One where the short pins engage the long pin and retain it. One where the short pins slip into a ring that's on the long pin and the long pin has a retainer.

I built a bastard from them with the second design pins. Seems to work.

The factory shafts have a shorter tapered down section leading up to the splines than the Nissan replacements do.

I didn't get many pictures today. We were working pretty steady to get it back together.

Engine skid was smashed up against the oil pan. It was transferring a bunch of engine noise and vibration. Got that off after work yesterday and it's much better.

Also pried the transfer-case skid away from the case so it's quieter too.

The cross over pipe took a hard enough hit to bend the front muffler hanger up.

If anyone needs to replace there's, the Dorman locker connector bulk-head for the M226 works. I tried the Crown brand and it acted like the pins were too short to make connection without pressing on it.

So now my locker functions again. Time to wheel! Well, got about another week of driving to work to have the carrier bearings broken in.

Curb stomped my engine skid flat again and put it on with some new bolts.

I was also having some no-crank issues the last couple days. I thought my starter was going because I could hear the starter solenoid and relay both engage but decided to clean my battery terminals and see if that helped before dumping a bunch of money on a starter.

After pulling the terminals and pulling the cables off those, wire brushed everything and put it back together. It cranks faster now and hasn't failed to start yet. Guess we'll see if that was it or not.

Now I've got to start digging in and repairing my suspension.

Got my leather wrapped steering wheel today. Not perfect but better than my deteriorating factory one.

I guess I've got to get the stuff to get the steering wheel audio controls working. It doesn't have back-lit controls so no repinning was needed.

Any suggestions on the best steering wheel control interfaces?

Nice! I’m still trying to figure out the wiring for mine, I have the cruise working but not backlighting or audio yet. And I need to order pins from somewhere since my X came with just cruise so I was able to steal 3 pins from my old wheel. I ended up just putting it back together as is for now until I get more parts. I’m not even bothering with the heated wheel until I buy a pathy clock spring, there’s no way the wire gauge in the stock spring will support that voltage safely IMO.

I got the Pathy clock spring that matched this wheel. The turn signal stalk with fog lights too but it has the "auto" setting.
I wish I would have ordered that to begin with but truthfully when it comes to the wheel I knew very little when I started. Man has that changed with this project. By chance does our signal stalk fit the pathy clock spring?

It's missing the wires for the auto setting. The Pathy (and later Xterras) has a light sensor on the center of the dash that facilitates the auto setting.

Hey what part number did you get for the clockspring? I'm looking them up but only see a few with what appears to be the plug for the heated wheel. The prices are all over the place with the chinese versions at the bottom but I'm a little skeptical of those given the airbag wiring runs through it.

Well, it looks like the Xterra isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

So moving forward, do ARB lockers have the same issue with improper spline engagement as the m226 e-locker?

Do standard length M226 axles work with the ARB?

Moser said no.

Emailed Alloy USA, Crown, and Motive Gear. Probably more no's inbound.

This is why I want a Jeep.

I'm sick of this shiat.

The factory PS shaft is 0.725 too short to fully engage the side gear in the locker. It's why the lockers blow up and wipe out the shaft splines like mine did.

Spoke with Steve Yesterday. He was familiar with the e-locker's failure but had never connected it with the shaft being too short. I shared @JeffPro4x failure with him as well. I don't know that he can, or even wants to, do anything with that info.

But he said the ARB and equal length shafts from a 3.54 MT axle are more durable. So I'm going to be doing some looking and see what kinda parts I can dig up to move in that direction.

Since this seems to be heading for an ARB, I installed and wired up my compressor finally.

Gonna take a day and clean up the wiring once I'm sure I like where it is.

Probably going to plumb an air chuck to the back of the drawer set to make it easier to get to as well.

I think I'm going to need a starter. It's getting to where I can hear the solenoid engage but no spinny-spin on the first key turn.

I've tried wiggling and jiggling the key when it happens (in the start position) and it doesn't do anything so I feel like it's probably the starter. Lots of starts in nearly 230k miles.
