Encountering Offroad Stupidity

This video popped up in my YouTube recommendations today. Skip to about the 10:15 mark where they’re stuck, and the idiot in the back who was drinking beers all day tries to “surf” and gets his bell rung by a sudden acceleration and appears injured. Then the truck hits a tree off camera, then they get it lodged on rocks and attempt to use a snatch strap to pull the rock.

I hate seeing stupidity like this, and luckily haven’t encountered it in person.

Razors bombing through water. Went and did a trail up near Nederland last year that had a solid water crossing. The razors were flying through it at 40mph trying to see who could mak the biggest splash. These are the reasons shiat get closed.
Those are the ones that rip up Peter’s Mill Run. That and the ATV riders that race and do donuts in the parking area where ATV riding is prohibited except directly riding to the trail.

Honestly that’s a motivator to do more challenging trails where they won’t be there. Flagpole Knob for example is accessible from the south side via an easy road, so people in regular passenger cars go there to smoke weed, drink, and act loud and obnoxious. But Meadow Knob is just a little farther away via Union Springs but they can’t get there.

There's stupid people on them all. The guys who went off road for the VERY FIRST TIME on Big Levels. One blew out a TRE and clogged the trail for 3 days. The other was in a 2wd Ranger, bogged it in a hole and paid $750 to have a local tow company tow strap it out.

Then on Potts, the two kids that were staying at the Greenbrier with their rich relatives, found Potts Jeep Trail and got their stock JK hung off the side of the mountain at 9 at night.

Years ago in Cottonwood Canyon west of Buena Vista, CO, 4 kids were riding ATVs through the creek tearing up the crossing and creekbed. After they had crossed to the other side I got out the fishing pole and started fishing. They came back and wanted to cross but couldn't 'cause I was fishing. Kept them parked there for over an hour.

Fortunately, in my limited time I've been offroading compared to some of you folks, I've only run into one total idiot.

We were doing some night wheeling, and ended up having some very drunk ladies on a quad behind me. She got impatient at one point, and almost slammed into the back of my Xterra while I was stopped. We got out, along with a few other drivers in the group, and basically told them to GTFO and away from outlr vehicles.
