Anybody have a clever at-home way of relieving enough pressure on an assembled coilover to rotate the lower bolt hole? I decided to pay a shop to change over the springs and I guess they didn't see there was an arrow on the top hat. And they're closed now.

Buy an actual spring compressor?
They’re free to rent/borrow from Autozone but with these springs and the thickness of the compressor I have to hammer it in with a rubber mallet and it strips the coating. And I’m not rich enough to buy the standing kind like they have at shops.

Hi all, new to the forums because I have a dumb question and couldn't find anything related in my searches. Times have been tough, so I have been selling off whatever I can these days. I have a 1st Gen Shrockworks front bumper that I am trying to sell. I ordered it with the "2" body-lift" option because my 2002 Xterra has a 2" body-lift. I have someone who is interested, but they do not have a body-lifted X. He is concerned that there may be fitment issues and I have no clue. Any ideas??

He just needs to order a 2" lift. Viola!

It should be!

But seriously, if you look at the mounting points, there should be two sets of holes. One for the 2" and one for stock height.
It just has one set of holes that match up for stock and a set of holes that they recommend be drilled into the frame to support winching. It was a $45 upcharge for the "2" body-lift" option, so they did something. I had another look earlier and I think they maybe make the side mounting plates a little longer or something. I was going to measure it against mine, but too cold, too much snow, and too lazy.

my head unit (pioneer avic5201nex) restarted itself on one way of a local-ish trip today. On the way back it squawked for like 10-15 seconds with the screen frozen, then restarted itself. Do I have a loose ground or something, or is it trying to end it’s sad existence?

Response #1: It’s trying to tell you “WTF are these sh!tty a$$ speakers you hooked up to me????”

Response #2: yes start with the deck ground wire and then power (Yellow and red both) while behind the deck. I have the avic-4600nex and it was finicky where I grounded. Still periodically disconnects from my iPhone. Great deck but yes finicky.
if you’re bouncing a lot overlanding or crawling, splices back there need to be done WELL.

Response #3: what are you powering it from? Did you splice with something that draws too much to handle the deck too? Remember it does have a decent amp of it’s own along with all the brain power in there. If joined to a dedicated fuse, try wiring it up with its own fused line from the block or battery.

I used one of those wiring harness kits so power comes from the factory stereo circuit. Will have to find a few minutes to pull the middle dash section and check the connections.

Ok, so being that the harness is getting factory power, I’m assuming you’ve had the deck in for a while, and not something that started soon/immediately after you installed it. I doubt it’s lack of juice, unless you’ve added accessories that are quite power hungry, or gremlins have installed a dikswitch on the ground wire just to piss you off. If you have the scosche or metra harness, those usually stay pretty snug, enough to hang the deck from them while driving on rumble strips at 85mph.
Also, did you have the heat cranked up? Music volume at 35 on that thing for hours? The area behind the deck can get quite toasty in there. Just thinking about a possible thermal shutdown.

What's the firmware you're running? Maybe you hit a bug or something?

I would give it a shot. if you're not running on the latest firmware

Was thinking of mounting the Trigger 4 controller right here but not really sure if there's enough space for about 1/2" of screw to stick thru without hitting anything and don't know how to take the center console apart to look . So anyone know what it's like behind here? 20211228_162723.jpg

Take out the top tray, that will get you access to 3 screws that hold the upper part of the center console. Take those 3 screws out... keep taking things apart until you get to that spot. ;)

It isn't hard, really. Download the service manual and have at it.

OR... bring it to me, go get lost for a few hours and I'll have it all apart when you come back. :D

I do need to download the service manual , good excuse as any .

Could you go to the local Native American reservation and have them preform a SNOW ceremony before Prime commit's Snow-a-cide

I was going to say the same thing as @Brunnie - it's just a pop of the top tray, three screws (don't drop them down into the abyss like I did), and the front pops right off. Just don't disconnect the passenger airbag light wire. What about overhead though? I don't know about your year specifically but I had that whole area where the stock bluetooth mic was.

Anyone have any tips on removing the spare tire on a 2011, when the carrier is rusted/frozen? The tire drops a bit, but after that, no amount of turning the handle will get it any lower. It seems the previous owner(s) were so lucky that they never needed the spare, as it appears to be the original. I'm not planning to use it, just need to get it out of the way so I can install a hitch receiver, which doesn't seem possible with the tire in the way.

PB Blaster.... WD40.... you're trying to lube the chain and mechanism. As you lube, work the hoist up and down, it just might get over the rough spot.

Sweet, I'll give that a try! (In addition to being an Xterra newb, I have no experience with truck ownership, as you can probably tell.)

Hopefully it works, and I won't need to break out the bolt cutters.

If the WD-40 doesn’t work, try a chemical called Knock’er Loose. I use it to free up the mechanisms in my service truck padlocks. Then do as previously suggested, running the chain up and down.

I’m going to a junkyard this weekend to pull an M226. Besides the obvious (wiring harness, ABS sensor lines, don’t crush the brake shields, etc) is there anything specific I need to get or watch out for?
