If I got one of those breather fittings for the heater core, could I install without having to drain/refill? The breather is specifically so I can burp it and not have to mess with all that, right? I just had my radiator flushed about 8k miles ago.
I had a shop do mine with a few other thing's but I'm planning on taking them off Odo and switching them to the new toy. Since it's at the top of the system I would think fluid loss would be minimal and you could just add a little to the expansion tank or the rad . Just my 2 penny's .You should replace the plastic 3 way at the same time .

I have a slight hesitation when hitting the pedal [ like 1-2 second's ] where it feel's like it's going to bog down from either to much fuel or lack of spark then it's right back to normal running with no hesitation/spitting/sputtering or lack of power. It also does not act this way all the time. So I'm going to put some fuel treatment in the tank and change out the fuel filter . There are no light's/code's coming on . Hopefully this remedies it but anything else to check on ?

I don't even know. What do I have to change?
So shocks are different from springs. The springs support the vehicle's weight and the shocks control the movement in the suspension.

In a 1st Gen, the shock and spring are separate in the front suspension unlike the 2nd Gen where the are assembled together.

If you aren't bottoming out or feel like you need to add capacity to the rest suspension right now, you don't need to change the springs. Simply replacing the shocks with good quality ones will improve the ride and handling. Most people like the Bilstein 5100 series shocks for mild offroad use daily driven vehicles.

In the future if you decide to lift or need added capacity you can replace the rear springs at that time.

Anybody know of a radio antenna to replace stock with? I need something that is height adjustable so I know where i can make it or not.
By the time your antenna strikes an object it will almost be too late. The top of the antenna is or can be out of site, and it is mounted on the right side of the vehicle, meaning that something on the left side could hit an object while the right side clears.

What you need are two clearance devices, one on each side, and mounted way out front so you can see them. The least expensive device is inside the vehicle, sitting in the copilot seat. Kick them out and have them spot for you if needed.

Or you could measure the height of your rig.

To sum up, I'll enter any lot that posts 6'8, anything lower I avoid. Issue is to avoid low hanging cables/wires/lights that stand lower than posted height limit. I would hate to take out a wire or trigger a fire alarm.

Here in this area, the posted measurements don’t mean anything, because they require people to actually abide by them when installing new stuff and nobody actually cares. The parking garage where I used to work had pipes and junctions that hung well below the actual measurement, and my current work up until about two months ago when I complained about it had “clearance 8’4”” warning hangers that were hanging at about 7’11” because they just put them back on the last link after working on them.

Well , when I tried to unscrew the short stubby antenna [ to replace with the taller one ] it just twisted and broke off about a quarter inch down in the little plastic thimble sized thing it resides in . I barely used any pressure at all , the metal screw rod appear's to have had a fracture already there [ I can see rust going thru where it broke]
Has any one else had to replace the antenna line from the back of a fosgate to the antenna mount ?
Or should I take it to a radio install type place and see what they say ??

Looks like the mount and cable going all the way to the radio is one assembly. If you have the FSM for your new X, it should be AV category page 33 for the removal/install. Here’s the page for my ‘12 P4X

Drawbacks to running high octane in the 2nd gen?

I recently didn't realize the Kroger I fuel at was out of everything but premium and with my $.90 off a gal I didn't notice it was pumping premium till it was almost full.

With the cold snap and higher octane the thing is running much better, throttle response, mileage (so far), overall pepiness..

Higher octane allows more ignition timing advance and can improve power of the ECM had the available leeway to take advantage of it. IIRC the Xterra ECM will only really see gains up to mid-grade. But running high test will not hurt, you just can't really take advantage of it.

Now, I've heard that the R51 Pathfinder ECM requires mid-grade as the minimum fuel spec (how they squeezed a little extra power from the VQ40DE in them) and can see gains with premium as well but I don't know if anyone has been able to get the R51 tune into a Xterra ECM.

Its the boost season! loved cold snaps in my turbo VW with stock intercooler and tuned ecu, summers were a drag. Now with Xterra only worry is, yo can I fit in that parking lot? @ffxcores got a text couple of minutes ago about it :)

Edit: My Butt Dyno says 93 octane makes the xterra run better

Currently have Bilstein 5100 (stock height circlip) with AllDogsOffroad medium duty lift springs.

I'm adding a WAM bumper winch tray and winch. Can I just jump to the ADO heavy duty lift springs and be okay a few years? My concern is dampening and overall performance. Some claim they're not tuned correctly for a heavier truck and HD coils, but it's possible I wouldn't notice a difference given the weight I currently have on there.

So I could go down and have my tires rotated but I wanna use my newish impact.

In lieu of a Google search, what's the best order to rotate to and from? I searched the sight but didn't come up with a how to or speak of..

I have always done “D”, just front to back, but that’s probably because we’ve had more cars with directional tires and that’s what I’m used to. Not saying it’s the best way for an xterra but it’s what I do. Plus it’s really easy to swap f/r on one side when you use the forklift at work!

I think D was what I did going into fall. and Tires 37PSI for Durtac's . Summer will bump to 44ish if doing long drives.

We should get the Wisdom for most used. and make it a sticky!

When using non-directional tires, I’ve always done the X pattern on my 4x4 vehicles. My Saturn has always had directional tires, so I just moved front to back, keeping them on the same side.
But honestly, I just take it to the tire shop anymore. Let them do it while I walk across the street to get my grocery shopping done.
