Mark your calendars for November 20 - the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving.
Last year we had 10 Xterras come out and run Flagpole. I think this year we can definitely beat that number.

Important Disclaimer: This ride is a group of individuals getting together for a ride. Both routes are public roads, and everyone is responsible for their own vehicles and personal safety, just like any other road. No person or organization is in control of anyone else, and anyone is free to come and go as they please.

We'll be splitting into two groups, one going up the Union Springs side (more challenging), and one group will go up Dunklehollow Rd. Dave (silver '07) can lead the Union Springs side and I can take the Dunkle side.
- Click the text above the map below for a link to the Gaia routes.
- If you want a .gpx file or .kml, shoot me a PM.
- Once at the top, we can get everyone together for a group photo, hang out a bit, and then head out whichever route you'd like. There's an "easy out" that takes you right to the road, or you can go down one of the other trails. Some folks will be camping out that night.

Meeting Location: Sheetz at 1825 S Main St, Harrisonburg, VA (Google Maps link)
Meeting Time (Union Springs route): 10:30am
Meeting Time (Dunklehollow/Switzer Lake side): 12:00 noon

Total Confirmed: 23

Here is a map with all the air up/down spots, the two routes we're taking up to Flagpole Knob, and also the easy exit out to paved roads to take you back toward Harrisonburg (back to cell coverage).

Exact times will depend on whether we’re at two different spots or not. Probably late morning or early afternoon.
i'm trying to create an event page on facebook but it would be nice to have a start time. there should be a start time to meetup at a sheetz or something and people can then choose what group they want to head out with.

Let’s say 1pm because some people are traveling from farther. Can we add the location later? @TerryD knows of a preferred Sheetz that doesn’t require us to go through downtown. I can’t find it now

If I do this (when I tell my boss I won’t be at work that Friday and Monday) I’ll be heading down and get to Virginia Friday night. Will there be anyone camping that night too. Up for a pre-meet up?

Lemme talk to my wife and see what she thinks. I wouldn’t mind doing something like Peter’s Mill Run Friday and camping there, or Long Run/Second Mountain. But she might not be up for camping two nights in a row. The overnight lows will be well below her threshold for comfort.

Be aware that it’ll take me 7-7.5 hrs to get there depending on where “there” ends up being for hooking up with you or anyone. If there’s a possibility of a Friday run too, I’d just have to plan my departure time accordingly. Plus some ass stretching time mixed in there too.

FYI ... 695 - 495 and the stretch of I-95 in between them is rated the worse rush hour traffic in the nation [ a dubious honor previously held by them calic-forny-in's !! So allow plenty of time to go now where while driving at 5-10 mph . If you use this route I could possibly meet up on the road with you if I decide on camping out on fri . If not feel free to swing by stretch the leg's grab some eat's [ plenty diff fast food/jerry's type place's around] I'm probably 1.5-2 mile's off exit 33b rte 198 . Food is a half mile past my community . Just throwing that out there .

I’m also up for meeting somewhere in the area and just hanging out.
Sounds awesome guys. I’m in western NY Rochester area. I won’t even touch I-95. Mostly I-81 so I shouldn’t see much of a delay. Maybe lots of trucks but shouldn’t be bad.

People are asking if we can start earlier than 1pm because it will get dark earlier. I was also wondering.

That’s fine with me. Is anybody suggesting alternate times? We already will have two separate meeting times if some are doing Union Springs first. I’ve only done that once, and from air down to Flagpole was almost three hours for five vehicles and not having to wait to pass other groups. The Dunklehollow side is about an hour and 15 minutes, say 90 minutes to be safe.

I think what’s best is deciding what time we want to meet at Flagpole Knob to grill out, socialize, and do a couple group photos of the trucks. Then work back from there for meetup times for the two groups.

I can say that in my case, I’ll be doing the Dunklehollow/Switzer Lake side up because of a couple people I want to roll up there with.

I’d prefer to come down Union Springs, but obviously only with a group. I’m comfortable going down Switzer side solo. I have plenty of lighting, so darkness isn’t an issue and I’m also open to camping. I’ll likely have the tent on either way so I’ll have the option.

10:30 at the Sheetz? If so, maybe we'll say noon at the Sheetz for the Dunklehollow folks.

It's looking like I'm not going to make this trip. Still haven't heard anything about my axle shaft and the wife's family has decided to do their Thanksgiving that day. Sorry guys.

Updated the main post and used the wife's phone to get names off Facebook. If anyone knows info to fill in the table for those guys and whether you're camping, please let me know (also, those folks should join XN).

@Newb @Pro-4K @xterraography you guys coming?

Since I’m communicating with you @ffxcores I’ll run the same as you for the weekend. Camping will be another story for who else is game on Friday night if any. I have to no matter what. Saturday night to me is open for anything.

I’m also in for camping Saturday night. Sunday I’m hoping to go down the Union Springs side and if people are up for it we can hit Peter’s Mill Run on the way up the road as well (it’s north on I-81 from Flagpole/Harrisonburg).

I’m going to try, probably just a day trip though. All my camping gear is in storage, but may try to convince my son to just sleep in back with an air mattress. I have to re-arrange an appointment but can’t until next week when I see what my hours are.

Welcome! I’ll edit the table tonight and add you in. If you look at some of the more recent posts in this same sub forum I’ve been trying lately to add photos/videos. This one has some videos playing around once we got to the top of Flagpole: https://www.xterranation.org/index....ers-mill-run-night-run-on-the-way-back.10007/

Not sure it's necessary, but edited the top post to add a disclaimer explaining that there is no implied or expressed organizational ownership of this event.

Kinda related to the other thread on waivers and such -- these are public roads. Even if a club were to hold an event and then somebody didn't sign/bring a waiver, there's nothing that can be done anyhow. You can say "hey, please stop following us" but there's no actual control over the road or route.

Do we need stickers on our windshields and wristbands too? Make sure you setup the height stick at the line entrance. Don’t want little kiddies in the cars without an adult
If you want to do Peter’s Mill Run on Sunday that does require a pass. But for Saturday, nothing required.

Just about a week away. Still lots of question marks on the FB folks, but hopefully most of them actually show.

Is anyone running the Dunklehollow side on Facebook? @MiggieX has been in touch with them so hopefully people can message him if they’re running late to the Sheetz, but it’d be great if we could get a POC for the later meetup.
