My headlight assemblies need replacing, they are all fogged up. I will get the lens cleaning kit for a quick fix, but would like to replace them at some point. Are these Spec D things legit? They are not expensive and claim to be DOT compliant. I like the HID kits but those are $800 and are listed as off road use only.

Anyone know anything about the Spec D?

I don't know about the projector kits but I will say avoid the eBay OE style replacements. I put them in my X to get the black bezels and they have a horrible pattern.

Hopefully these projectors are much better.

Remember that in VA it has to be DOT and be stamped as such to pass inspection. And yes, retrofits will get you in trouble in VA.

TYC is a pretty good OE replacement. They make a lot of OE assemblies for other brands.

Or you could get like new OE assemblies gently used on eBay. But if stay away from the Chinesium lighting industry for headlights.

Hmm. One of the pictures shows the bottom of the lens marked with H1 VOL DOT SAE. Is that the correct marking? Maybe I’ll order and bring them to an inspection station to check.

Headlights are on back order until January. So, I bought the Nineo 9007s and a headlight restoration kit for a temp fix. The kit cleaned up the lights quite a bit, I’m impressed. Got a bit on the bumper plastic but I already ordered a new bumper in Sep so I wasn’t being careful.

For the Nineos, looks like I need to trim the white lock ring to fit around the bigger fan, am I correct?

I didn't have to do any trimming on mine. They were a bit tighter to put in (if I remember), but no modifications.
Same. I feel like I tried every which way probably 10 times each, but somehow figured it out. They’ll install without trimming.

I've had a variety of used cars with reflector housings in the past, and for almost all of them, Spec-D made projectors. And on the owners' forums for all of them, the general consensus was that these have a horrible beam pattern. Since I don't believe there's a headlight retrofit mafia pressuring everyone into posting the same comments, I think we can conclude that Spec-D does not make a good product.
