Auto fan here. I like a manual, but autos are better offroad.... and drag racing.... and grocery getting....
I completely agree :) Having a manual that's good in a certain situation and certain conditions can't compete with "easy to drive all the time".

I probably shift gears in my auto as often as most folks do with a manual. And I've wheeled both and prefer an auto because of the increased control in crawling situations.

I can definitely see that folks around here favor a manual. It that just for the bump in off road performance? Personally I'm old and it's hard enough holding the break pedal down at a light without constantly dealing with a clutch. Shiat man my 2019 Avalon had a "hold" button on it. When engaged and stopping at a light you can take your foot off the brake and it just stays there. When you touch the gas it start forward again. I LOVED that feature, mostly for drive-thru lines. I live in a city and sitting in traffic with a manual sucks... badly.

Additionally I want to have it fairly easy meaning I stop exactly where I want to stop and I start going again and take off right away without any hassles. But I am curious as to the reason why folks favor a stick.
More control mostly. And engine braking helps too.

There are times when a manual sucks. Mostly in heavy slow traffic or tight technical off-road driving.

My 04 Xterra isn't bad in traffic. Sucks trying to be "gentle" while off road.

My WRX sucks in traffic. Damn me for putting a stage 2+ clutch in it.

Is it weird that I just spent the last 90 minutes figuring out how to design a music ID service because some of our programming can't be arsed to provide title/artist data?

All I can say is I've never wheeled with someone who said they couldn't, or didn't want to try an obstacle because they had an auto. I've heard that with manuals many times...

Oh, and I've wheeled both. Auto is a lot easier.
Those sound like people who are not confident in thier clutch control.

Congrats! Take my advice from experience. Keep the 1st Gen as a toy. And make it bonkers. DD the Fronty. I should have.
That's precisely the plan. The fronty will definitely see some occasional trail use. Matter of fact, I'm taking it out in a few weeks for a trial run. Hoping to put the locker to the test.

If it's going to see any trail use, I always recommend sliders. A set of WKO sliders costs a lot less than a rocker panel and a door.....

For mods, I'm not really thinking much. Probably about 2 inches of lift, maybe sliders, and that's about it.

Maybe a rear bumper, but I'm not sure. It does need a tow hitch (currently doesn't have one).

It's not going to see a ton of trail use though. It's got all seasons on it, with a decent amount of tread left, so I'm not planning on replacing them for a while.

And thats how it begins.

Famous last words.
I mean, you're not wrong....

But the reason I wanted the pro-4x was so it was already really capable when I bought it. I still don't have a lift on the X, and it goes everywhere I want. Granted, it's a shorter wheel base. So I figure 2in should be good for what I'm gonna do with the truck.

Sketchy trails get the X. Forest roads and family camping trips.... Quite possibly the Frontier.

This Leer hard shell bed cover has to go though. Too limiting.

Keep the shell for camping. I really like the shell on my GMC.

I do, boo boo.

I love the big orange ones. I replaced my small, grey ones, but then someone said they recalled the replacement ones too. And they always look at me like they wanna murder me.

I have 4 of those. None of mine were in the recall. There are numbers on the side of them to check.
