I need to replace the stock tires within the next few months. I'm sticking with the stock size this time around. Now I just need to decide between my final two contestants; BFG KO2 T/A and Toyo Open Country AT3. I think these 2 suite my needs well as far as being capable for weekend wheeling (no rock crawling), fairly drivable on snow and ice and reasonably durable and quiet for a daily driver.

The KO2 has been tried and true for a long time, but the Toyo AT3 seems to have been much improved over the Toyo AT2 and has gotten a lot of good reviews.

I'd love to hear others' experience, opinions and preferences for one over the other. Thanks!

I don't have any experience with either personally but my buddy won't run anything but BFGs on his work trucks doing farm construction. So take that for what is worth. Third hand experience over the internet. :D

Appreciate the input!

I like the look of the Toyo AT3s, but it's hard to ignore the long-term success of the KO2s. The design has remained mostly unchanged for years and they still get great reviews year in and year out.

Need Bigger Tires
I've heard the KO2s aren't necessarily as great on snow/ice as some of the other options out there (like the Duratracs or Cooper ST/MAXX), but Im not sure how much of a concern that is for those not in Canada or Alaska. As with Terry's note, this is third-hand internet wisdom, so take with the appropriate grain of salt (ask your doctor for the appropriate dose).

I've not heard much about the Toyo's, so I'm not going to comment on those at all. Unless you really want me to, at which point I am sure I could pretend to know something.

When we bought our '09 it had fairly new KO2's on; they had about 9K miles on them IIRC. I have only put on about another 10K miles, but have been very impressed by them. Relatively quiet, and in my experience they have great traction on pavement, dirt, sand, mud, snow and slush. Nothing bad to say about them. I have read positive things about the Toyo's as well, but don't have any personal experience with them.

In comparing the specs of the stock size, the KO2 weighs 6 lbs more per tire. I'm guessing most of that difference is in the sidewall because size and tread depth are similar. So, that might translate to more durability.
