Did my sliders today. I wasn't feeling great this morning and should've taken it easy, and now I feel like a lump of crap. At least it's off my list.

Turns out the Rust-Oleum "pro" bed liner is garbage. May as well have used a crayon. Basically anything hard that touched it took off a scraped area — floor, wrench, tip of ratchet, etc. I don't know what the deal is — I followed all the instructions and let it cure a full week. We had a few days of high humidity, some low, and the last 24 hours was in front of the fire. For now I sanded and wiped all the spots then hit them with a thick glob of it from the can. I want to at least have something there, even if it's not fully cured when I drive tomorrow. In the spring I'll probably yank them back off and take them to get powder coat.
Just off hand, how intense were you in cleaning them before priming? I had to send mine to get acid washed to get all the oils off so something would stick and stay. Used the same rustoleum as you on my rims and even they needed excess prep for good adhesion.

I used acetone then used a stripping wheel on an angle grinder. This is when the outer tube was done. Looking like chrome:

But in my case the primer is 100% intact. It was just the bedliner that came off. It was etching primer and I gave it a full 24 hours, scuffed it with 120 sandpaper (what the instructions on the can said), and then used a shop vac and microfiber cloths to make sure the surface was clean.

Even the spot where a piece of 2x4 was in between it and the jack came off. No clue what went wrong.

I spoke with Rust-oleum today, and they said the problem is spray bed liner shouldn't be used on etching primer. They say it should have gone on bare metal only. If I had used roll-on bed liner I would've been fine. Right now the primer is holding up, but just taking a drive around town today resulted in a bunch of chips. I think my current plan is to fix chips by sanding and filling with regular hammered paint, and then in the spring I'll either take it to get sand blasted and powder coated, or I'll strip off the existing bed liner and use roll-on.

Oh, and Rust-Oleum refunded me the cost of the bed liner without me asking.

@ffxcores How difficult was the install and would it interfere with the fender replacement if I ever find one?

Edit: Doesn't look like it would from the pictures but wanted to check

It wasn't bad. I wasn't feeling well and didn't sleep well the night before, so that probably added a couple hours. Plus I was trying to take video. A second person would probably make it much easier to help lift and stabilize.

It sits just under an inch from the fender but shouldn't be in the way at all.

This week's update ; Putting the center cap's on the 18 hole spare tire rim's . Most everybody here know's I put a full set of the spare tire rim's with some MT's on Odo and I do like the look but what I didn't like was the axle (20201229_134412.jpg 20201229_135048.jpg ?) end's with the nut and cotter pin being directly exposed to the element's so I bought 3 center cap's that they run on those 6 spoke silver/grey/aluminum rim's on some X's . After buying some flanged lug nut's [ DORMAN 611-210 ] when I mounted them they were a little lose so what I did was put a 13/16th's nitrile O-ring on [ 1st pic] and that took out the slack ; Just in case someone else was gonna do this. I did sand/ paint the cap itself and clean the little badge before install. So now I have 3 chrome/3 black nut's on each wheel [ yeah , I'm out there ] I'll let it go like this for a while and if I don't like it I'll paint the chrome or replace the black , but I'd bet it stay's like this !! It's not letting me post the lug nut with the o-ring pic .

well, just trying to get this through winter & see how it (@ 175K) holds up before really committing too much:
i had put new valve cover gaskets on & iridium plugs 15K ago, when the prev. owner first got it.
she had timing belt done & later heater core tubes + the hoses going to the tubes from the engine bay,
but the heater core itself wasn't replaced and there was a pint of residual coolant soaked into the pass. side carpet.
so new heater core, metal tubes & non-a/c heater duct from a '99 Frontier
(likely going to eliminate all a/c components eventually)
new lower intake manifold gaskets & then Blue Devil Pour-N-Go Head Gasket Sealer, cause it was still blowing coolant some
and i'm not tearing the heads out in the middle of winter here - maybe in Spring if all else is still running well then.
That stuff did a respectable job of eliminating white exhaust smoke during all but initial start up - time will tell how it holds up.
front door speakers, added trailer hitch, good winter tires, drained & filled transmission twice, several other little worn/missing pieces.

owners down south should be so appreciative of your rust-free older vehicles. nothing up here has enough solid metal in the frame or elsewhere after 10 + years to make extensive repairs/mods worth the cost & effort.

Changed out carrier bearing, u-joints(spicer hd), rear trans seal. Then changed transmission and rear diff fluid and a oil change to enter what hopes to be a better year.

Just the little skid's that mount onto the shock bolt's . I went with the nisstec flip kit because it's steel , a few people had some issue's with the aluminum one's. It's to late to worry about weight and GPM :D I emailed EXPEDITION ONE about their front bumper 9 day's ago and nothing so I called yesterday and left a message " no reply" !! So they can stick their bumper &#(^!$$$@$)(@%#&*!^%VBE&!$#NE78 !! There profit loss . Still up in the air as to which skid plate set .

Managed to rotate the tires this evening after work and stuck the new battery charger on it while I was working. It got it charged but I had to cut the optimization cycle short. I'll throw it back on this weekend and let it go through a full run.

Other stuff on hold, house repairs are looking like they are going to be nearly $10k. Fawk....

Not really liking the U-Bolt's that came with the flip kit , but I did manage to POR-15 the axle and put the shock skid's on. I didn't do some of the brake line axle bracket's all the way because they need to be replaced and It'd be easier without Por on it. 20210114_105548.jpg

Finally had some free time today. Replaced the driver window control button assembly (old one was sticking), and took the two rear door panels off to trim the plastic that was hitting my speaker bracket and keeping the door panel from staying on.

Felt good to get some minor stuff off my list.

Rago ditch light bracket and lights installed. Questioning my light choice (Baja S2 combo) and will probably swap it out with the Diode Dynamics combo when it's eventually available.

The DD will be lower profile wiring (connector plugs in direct vs inline) and the pattern is driving and flood vs Baja's spot and driving.

Put the Z-1 Offroad extended brake line package and both rear steel line's on today . 1st time playing with brake's since High school !! But while putting the last line on the front driver side I went to move the 7 inch hard line end out of the old hose end at the clip and it moved funny  and then it wasn't funny when I glanced at the other end of said hard line. Okay now here's a test for everyone !

Guess the one hard line that's on NATIONAL back order ????????????
Com'on ..................... you can do it .
It's for an Xterra

I guess I didn't spend enough $$$$$$ last week :( The rear passenger wheel started making noise like the emergency brake wasn't fully disengaged or a pad had pulled lose or broke a piece off and got wedged in there or the rotor warped [ even though the pedal wasn't pulsating] so took it over jeff's today and found out the caliper wasn't fully disengaging so after looking it over I just did some local part's store stuff Rotor/caliper/pad's on both rear wheel's and it stop's better then it has since I've owned it:confused:;)20210222_112749.jpg 20210222_150344.jpg
