Radio help

So I upgraded my radio right after I bought the X. I did a self install and everything work but I had a hum from interference. I was never sure I had the radio connected to a ground since the wiring diagrams are always hard to find but everything worked so I left it alone with the plan to ground it to the frame when I had time. I had time and after pulling the radio found that my ground wire and connector are melting. I was connected to an orange wire ( I think) that was labeled acc-. Anyone know if this is a issue with my radio or did I screw something up?

Thanks for the help

You connected the orange wire to the ground? The ACC wire typically is live with voltage. Think, illumination.

Yeah thats probably part of the problem. That ACC can be taped off if you dont need it, but that ground (typically the black wire) should be chassis grounded with a screw to some metal.

Ok I fixed it. Everything works still have a little hum but not much at all. The alternator is making the hum and you can hear it with the radio off. Guess thats going out also. Fixed my blower motor resistor toady and the blower motor is next. It works but sounds like something is hitting the blades. So we are getting there.

The wire colors are not always consistent even within a model year. Friends have found several variations in every first gen model. Trace the wire before you cut.
