Damn

So.. does that mean something other than, don't buy Felpro gaskets?
I've used a lot of their aid over the years and it's usually top notch. But their exhaust manifold and flange gaskets have never been great.

They make some problem solver gasket sets for troubled vehicles that work great. Their modified Vortec intake set for my truck has been awesome.

Ok, I have one of their air cleaner gaskets on the way and had nightmares of it getting sucked apart.. I'll be scrutinizing it upon arrival.

@AlbatrossCafe redoing his brakes got me wondering about mine so today I've got them pulled apart. Gonna clean everything up a bit and lubricate it all.

Was gonna have the rotors turned but for $120 (off the vehicle already) I can nearly buy new which is what I'll do next summer.

Nothing looks bad, but I've been in some deep holes this summer and the slots in the pad are full of gunk and the park brakes were full of dirt.

Well, the only issue I found was a broken piece of hardware for the driver's side rear pads. Got them ordered from AutoZone and they should be here tomorrow.

In the process of all this, I've lost one of my security lug nuts and the key for them. It's the only stuff missing and I can't find them anywhere. Guess I'll be grabbing 4 standard lug nuts too.

No thanks man. I don't want these either but I prefer to remove things than lose them.

Looking into the proper lug nuts to run my steelies and caps now. I've been looking at swapping tires so I might get that done soon.
I put those Black Spline's on so I have a complete set and 4 chrome lock-lug's with 1 key . There just going to the basement except 4 lug's I'll carry for spare's .I bought a set of 3 center cap's [ just for the front ] but the new lugnut's won't grab enough .

Got my pieces in and the X back rolling. My head is killing me today but I managed to power through and get it rolling.

Now I've got to get some stuff together for tomorrow. We're going out riding and gonna fix supper on the trail. We're gonna do jambalaya. I had to check out my camp stove this morning too. It had acted funny the last time I had it out so I ran a bunch of seafoam through it.

Now I'm trying to relax and get my head to stop hurting so I can finish getting things packed.

Yeah. It's a pretty common practice to run a dose of SF through a GPA (gas pressure appliance) to try to clean up a generator before having to change them.

It's usually a 50/50 shot with really old stuff. And you have to run it a long time for it to really do good. I let this run about an hour with a big aluminum plate over the generator to try and reflect back as much heat as I could on the generator.

A good nap, dose of Alieve, and big dose of caffeine has it at bay right now. Still got to pack some stuff up for tomorrow but we can get it in the morning. Basically just some chairs, water and a table.

How much SF did you run in it?

Probably 1/2oz for a mostly full tank of fuel? I don't get very precise with my measurements. my lanterns get the same treatment.

I have had it stop up a lantern generator before. It broke so much old buildup loose, it plugged the orifice. In that case, it was time for a new generator anyways so no harm.

I need to grab a hand full of generators the next time I'm in Gatlinburg. I've used a good few 200a and 286/288 generators this year getting some new acquisitions going again.

Maybe we need a GPA thread? Seems I'm not the only one running them.

I've got an old lime green two burner I got from my grandad that's been sitting in the unused camp box in the back of the shed for years. I haven't ever tried to run it as I always had a one or two burner coleman I'd grab knowing the old one would probably need some finicking to get it to run. Dunno. I've been holding it hoping I'd get you in the secret Santa.. it's yours if you want to play with it. It'll sit in that box probably until I die and then my family will throw it out.

Not sure of brand but it's profile is about the size of a coleman 2 burner box but the front is only about 2" high and the back is about 4-5" high. Kinda a triangle side profile, same tank style as the coleman's.

Let me know what it would take to get it here! I'd like to see what it is!

Nice! I am always impressed with the stuff that gets kicked up when off-roading.

I am also impressed or is that depressed? by just how ineffective a high pressure hose on the underside can be. Wash and then put up on jackstands so you can get a good look at what you missed....

This thing picks up some interesting stuff. I wound up with a chunk of wood on top of the front driveshaft earlier this year on the trail. Talk about an unsettling sound!

So don't waste your money on that lube locker gasket. The M226 has a drain and most aftermarket covers do too. RTV that thing on and don't worry about it.

I'll be pulling mine when I'm due the next oil change on the diff. I also need some kind of lock washers for the Allen bolts on the ARB cover.

Finally ordered the t-case output seal and shield. Hopefully get those swapped on as soon as they arrive. I'll probably try to replace the u-joint too. It's original with 206k on it.

One of the front shaft joints failed a few years ago. Completely dry and LOUD. I put both joints in that shaft.

But it's a good run for the rear, especially since about 40k has been lifted.

Yeah definitely not bad at all. You probably already know this but a removal tool will make your life much easier on that job, especially with original u-joints.

This ARB cover is a leaking SOB. Bolts constantly loosening up on it and it's always wet.

Left out the Mag-Hytec Lubelocker gasket and used RTV. And I used blue Loctite on the bolts, torqued to 23ft-lb. If I have to pull this cover again, I'm putting something else back. Maybe even the dang stock cover.

I have heard that about those covers.

Is it warped, was it overtightened once and now the bolts never torque properly? TBH is it is giving you so much grief, replace it! Ain't got time for that, put the stock one on for now until the new one (which ever you decide to replace it with) arrives.

It's never been over tighten. Under tightened maybe? But the four long bolts stay tight. The shorter bolts are the ones that loosen up.

But it's glued on with Black RTV and Loctited.

Drove it all day and it's still dry. So far so good.

I only had a hodgepodge of 80w90, 75w140 and 85w140 gear oils but I'll change it soon and this made a good flush of the case since it was open for a while.

Well, so far no leaks. Gonna keep an eye on it for a few days.

I just threw in what oil I had here so I'll be changing it again before too long. This should let me see if it's gonna hold though.

Got a couple hundred miles on it and it's doing good.

Working on a list of stuff I need to do to get the X ready to go this spring.

Still gotta replace the t-case output seal and some other little stuff.

If I can sell my steelies I'm gonna look into some bigger tires. 296/75/17 is what I'm thinking. Might take some trimming and will require a tire carrier bumper.

If you go that route, I’d be interested to see which bumper you get. Been looking at them myself.

Working on staining my drawers. I'm not exactly tickled with how it's turning out but at least it'll be sealed and hopefully preserved for a while.

received_476863617100577.jpeg

The waiting 4 hours between coats of poly REALLY drive me nuts. But I want three coats on the surfaces that will see the abuse.

Another thing I did was drill and counter-sink 6 holes in the base to mount it solidly to the utilitrack system in the rear of the X.

Wife sick today. Daddy duty for me. I had to have the schedule run down for me like 3x haha.

Really nice day. Sunny and 75. Probably take the boy out for a drive on the sand dunes later this afternoon.
