Howdy. This sounds great. I have a 2012 Titan Pro4X and would love to do the mod. Can I get on your list? Thanks.

Soon there will be a plug n play option for those that want to have full control over their factory locker. This interface will plug in between your chassis harness and the "computer" that controls your locker. This is based on the mod that doesn't give you warning lights and does not require extra switches or relays. It uses factory style connectors, if you can work a locking style plug, you can install this thing. No wiring work required. I currently have parts to build 5 and am assembling the prototype for a local X that does not have the wiring mod.

First functional prototype.

Is part of the R&D to make it a very small thing and get the connections as close as possible?

Nope, that's actual size. Wires are cut to 6" length prior to stripping, crimping, and soldering. It ads to the harness and doesn't replace a portion.

The unit pictured drove away installed in it's new home this afternoon. I handed it over and went through some rudimentary instruction on where the DLCU is. He snapped the unit in, in maybe 30 seconds time. I then jacked up his rear left tire just to do the demo and show him what a delayed lock due to misalignment and delayed unlock due to binding looked like. Happy dude.

Works like a charm guys, dude knows his stuff. Put it through the paces in RM975's garage, and tested it again on his dirt road driving off the property.

Prototype #2 ready to go out the door. This one went faster, I have a better prep method for the socket and a better method for pinning it out with my meter when I test it on the bench. I decided to try out a taped end finish. I like the finished ends but I don't like the electrical tape look. Also, this one was assembled with varying wire lengths to give it the 180 turn, which helps keep the rest of the harness up under the panel. Also, now that I am finished with hay harvest prep, I can give this project a little more time.

I like the finished look as well, especially for a 'commercial' product. Look at some heat shrink tubing. You can use a paint stripper to collapse it, just don't get it too close or you can burn the plastic.

Beneath the electrical tape, all the solder connections, except one, are individually shrink wrapped. One connection is two adjacent pins that bridge/solder together. So it does look like the first prototype further up the thread, under the tape.

Paint stripper to collapse heat shrink tubing. Wow, never heard of that but it makes sense. I have multiple heat sources for shrinking the tubing. The jack and the plug are both plastic though and I'd be concerned of how they'd be affected. I though about heat shrink tubing that would fit over one of the connectors, maybe some of the 3:1 shrink stuff. The wires are too short to pre install shrink tubing.

What about heat shrink on the middle section and leave the part where the wires flare out unwrapped (for lack of a better term)? That would leave the ends near the connectors free to flare out and wouldn't put stress on the wires as they go into the back of the connector

Just a thought...

I've thought about that. I'd need to install all of the sockets prior to running the bundle through the shrink wrap, but I would need to identify all of them prior to inserting them into their locations. I could do that with my meter. I am also thinking of a product we used to build harnesses that we called snakeskin, it's a woven expandable sheath. I am also trying to keep cost down.

Thanks for the input!

So what is that now, 16 new members just to get on the list for this? Pretty impressive.

not going to lie, the forums are kind of out dated, and a question (if there isn’t already a thread) could be lost for a while, where as if your on social media, feed back is almost immediate. But for this kind of stuff, the forums are great! I joined just to get on the list for this, but also planning to make a build page when I get it started.

I mean, if someone wants to pay the extra, it’s worth having as an “upgrade” option... depending on price some might upgrade!

And since I don't "social media" and I hear about lots of ill informed responses that come from that particular platform of expertise, I'll just stay here, where I can search archived information.

Same, I've checked out the Xterra section on Reddit once before...I'll let someone else handle all the "what's the best lift" questions haha
