Nice looking truck! I've always liked that color on those.
thanks

so far, the wife has approved of the first mod

I will be getting the blazer Wireless Management system. this will allow me to install some lights on this thing without having to permanently cut a hole somewhere in a dash that is already pretty busy

What size tires can you fit on that thing? :p
so come to find out the stock size for this truck was actually 265/70/17 with 17x8 rims with a offset of +24mm

now with that figured out I can research what's the biggest size tire I can get on this thing with out needing to trim some fenders or to adjust backspacing( don't have the $$$ for new rims right now)

also found out that this thing has these adjustable shutters ( active shutter system) that if removed with basically throw the truck into limp mode. looks like i need to break out some fab skills in the spring and see if i can custom fab some mounting brackets in order to install a single row ( possibly a double row) 30" curved light bar in front of these shutters and push the light bar in in the actual grill. this GM forum is very poorly organised. the modded vehicle has no subject division so i need to search through 371 pages of carious threads to find what I am looking for and want to read ( I've been saving specific threads to speed things up)

I will also need to break out my fab skills to be able to have a hidden winch in the front bumper. definitely spoiled with XN for the last few years

What is these shutters you are speaking about and what is their purpose?

It’s these flaps that adjust with speed to help aerodynamics at highway speeds. Plus on cold days they limit the air going through the rad

well drove the 2 hours to Ottawa to do a some costco shopping. was easier to do alone with no kids then with the whole family. specially with Xmas being so close and people tend to loose their minds this time of year.

driving the 2 hours I averaged 20 MPG. was so suprised and the diffrence in fuel economy.

also ended up ordering one of these

and am also about to order a set of weatherTech floor mats

Added more pictures of the cab bag and weather techs installed

relocated the jack and tire tools in the cab bag to make it easier with the 3 car seats. It’s just a really small bottle jack that came with the truck. Hey will most likely end up buying a bigger bottle jack and keep it stored in the box with the rest of the tools but that’s a futur me expense.

Just finished sorting out some medical supplies that I had kicking around the house. So packed myself up a truck trauma bag

going to be ordering a small brown pouch to attach to the side of it that will hold some triage tags, flagging tape, window punch and some sort of seat belt cutter.

That's a nice kit! I need to go thought my FAK and get the OE Xterra junk out of it and fill it with better quality stuff. I also need to have my wife and her ER nurse friend add some goodies to it.

With the bag, and everything in it there is probably close to $2-3000 right there

Yeah, I figured it would be up there. Good quality stuff is expensive. Our FAKs have been picked over for years now. When the wife worked at a nursing home, she'd bring home the things that she checked out and only used some of (bandages, ect, not meds) and we built up a decent kit. It's been years now since she worked so it's pretty rough shape.

Now we'll have to do some shopping to build them back up. She usually carries our original kit. I added a BROG Medium IFAK to my X's OE FAK spot and it'll hold about 3x what the OE pouch would. I gave the pouch to a buddy with an X. Now I need to stock it up good and be good to go for the year.

Just to give you an idea. Just for the bag and internal pouches

I always look at those every time I go to BROG website. But I can’t bring myself to spend that much for those pouches right now since I still have the other half of that CTOMS bag as well as a Blackhawk SO med bag that are collecting dust in the basement still

I bought it specifically because it fit the X's factory location and is a very nice bag. They're pretty local to me so I go visit occasionally and chat with Matt and Adam. Nice folks! I have a few more of their things as well I've nabbed over time. But I totally get using what you have rather than spending more money for something new.

Under cover swing case installed. Easier then I imagined. Comes with 6 self tapping screws (might change the. Out this summer who knows). Already loaded this one up with a pair of cold weather work gloves, 2 steel shackles and 1 gator jaw, a recovery strap, rear hitch shackle tampon, tire compressor and lockable pin for the hitch and my halligan vehicle access tool This is all locked in the actual case and I will be adding another lock to the bracket to lock the whole assembly onto the truck

They need to make those long enough and out of steel so you lock up a long gun in there and not have to worry about them being stollen.

They have some that are the length of the box. But are still made in plastic. This still wouldn’t work to lock up firearms in Canada. Plus I am still a bit doubtful on how water tight these really are I would rather build a secure lock up and have it placed under the rear seats. More out of sight out of mind kind of thing. But gun laws are about to get a shiat kicking up here in Canada anyways. So that is more a watch and shoot for the moment. ( see what I did there lol). Some politicians want to go the route New Zealand has gone with a full semi auto ban as well as banning pistols.

That's nice............ Is that the spot for a pad lock coming thru the hinge bracket itself ? Did you do this in stereo or was mono enough ?

Yes there is a place for a padlock to lock the case to the mounting bracket. As for the mono/ stereo content I am guessing your asking if I installed 1 or 2 of the swing cases. So far I’ve only installed the drivers side. Not sure if I want to buy the passenger side box or not

I'm old school or [ just old] I should have said 1 or 2. LOL Are they a universal mount [ either side ] just curious. I figure I'm driving alone 95% so I'd want one for the passenger's side just to keep the weight distributed evenly especially with chain's shackle's etc,etc.....

They are pretty much vehicle specific. And they have a driver side and passenger side in order to mount the bracket and be able to open the case

Well kind of need help deciding what a pillar light bracket to go with

I have 3 options currently:
1.) https://sdhqoffroad.com/collections...-a-pillar-light-mounts?variant=31409663148132

these are the most expensive with shipping and conversion to CAD and easy to install

2.) https://www.ragofabrication.com/collections/chevy/products/2014-2019-chevy-silverado-ditch-brackets

these are a bit more difficult to install but will end up costing under $200 for the item and shipping and conversion to CAD

3.) say ufck it and build my own.( would most likely end up with something similar to option 1.) cost would be minimal and the only real expense is to get them powder coated. But I would need to wait until spring to fab them up and with a deployment looming I don’t think I have the time available to get it done this year.

well ended up ordering the SDHQ Ditch light brackets

now working on my lighting plan. considering the wife doesn't want me cutting into the dash quite yet. ( she would like me to pay it off first)

here is what I am thinking for lighting plan

- ditch light with side shooter amber strobe lights
- behind the grill 30" single Row LED Light bar with Rough Country brackets ( comes as a kit including light bar https://www.roughcountry.com/gm-150...tml?find=2017-chevy-silverado-1500-4wd-374174)
- looking to order another traffic Advisor light bar ( came in real handy in the X, specially when stopped at accidents https://www.amazon.ca/LED-Strobe-Warning-Light-Bar/dp/B07H97F234/ref=sr_1_19?keywords=36"+amber+emergency+strobe+light+bar&qid=1581886725&sr=8-19)
- adding something like these strobe light pods on top of the Traffic Advisor for extra strobe ( https://www.amazon.ca/XTAUTO-Emerge...rds=amber+strobe+light&qid=1581892975&sr=8-78)
- Rear facing flush mount LED pods to rear bumper ( Something like this https://www.amazon.ca/Nilight-Light-Driving-Lights-Warranty/dp/B01MQSWG2I/ref=sr_1_16?crid=1ATKTLUK2XABP&keywords=flush+mount+led+lights&qid=1581893144&sprefix=Flush+mount+LED+,aps,190&sr=8-16)

and for switches the end game will be something similar to what i did to the X

Ok. The last traffic advisory bar I had rattled like a MOFO in the X. Not sure if it’s how I mounted it or if it was other noise from the rattling around. Need to figure a way to attach it so it’s solid enough that nothing will rattle around.

Use it for white-outs?
I am a bit of a shiat magnet with my specific set of skills. This just adds another layer of visibility. Plus with the slow down and move over laws regarding emergency vehicles and road workers. This helps to alert people that something is going ahead

Ended up installing a set of WeatherTech in Channel window deflectors

4CF9079B-D976-4B78-BD1D-0D76054521B1.jpeg
I ended up breaking the passenger front deflector. So I have 3 of 4 installed. Just emailed WeatherTech to see if they can send me another one on warranty.

Ok just found the perfect switch mounting area. I will loose the 12V cig lighter/power outlets but in this truck there are 2 USB outlets and a 110v plug inverter all in the same place

Well added a switch pod today. Took about 2 hours total. ( has issues getting things passed through the firewall. But got it done)

still need to hook up the + and - and then to add the light accessories.

Now for the pics
