Yes, those seem very good. The Exterior Lighting chapter refer to a number of connection points for trailer lights, but I have not yet seen a schematic showing how the OEM trailer wiring works.

Further research indicates this is a common issue. Installing just the pigtail to the rear OEM connector gets proper brake and turn signals on the trailer, so there must be a converter already built-in somewhere. But with just the pigtail, there are no running lights. Most people get the non-converter kit from T-One or Curt (about $40-50) which has a set of 3 relays that plug in behind the kick panel, but there is also just a blue relay (under passenger kick panel or under dash left of steering column, about $12+shipping) that some people say made their trailer running lights work ok.

I am a cheap guy, so leaning towards simply splicing the brown trailer connector feed wire to the nearby license plate lights. Any thoughts whether that would be good or bad for some reason?
