Running out to the the overlook the other night got me dreaming about a SAS a little.

I'm wondering if I could do a SAS and still have no more than 4-5" of lift when I'm done with a JKU D44 and a radius arm setup. I only really want to run 35s but have decent articulation and ride. And I don't want this thing to be massive. I'm very happy with its current size.

This isn't an impending thing, just dreaming outloud...

I think to get that kind of lift on a 2nd gen SAS you'd have to rework the frame in the front. The flat frame rail at the front end necessitates a lot of lift so that the axle can swing.

yeah the frame makes it hard to stay low unless you do a LOT of cutting. That's the difficult part about SAS on 2nd gen. Only seems worth to SAS if going to 37-40" tires where you need to have 5" + of lift unless you tear into the frame

Well, that's not encouraging. I'm not looking to go that big with this thing. Maybe if I had a longer wheelbase like a Frontier something around 5-6" would be easier to deal with.

Well I’m new to Xterras but have done a few sas swaps in my day , biggest question is do you want to run leafs or coils ?

I haven’t had any time to look into it but I will later tonight , if trying to run leafs I wonder if running A shackle slider in place of a traditional shackle and then French it into the frame a little to keep everything as low as possible .
