Just wondering what everyones MPG are at and what type of driving you get this MPG at...
I go throught some subdivisions hittings lots of stops signs and then trying to make it to school on time so im not that easy on the pedal. Then I hit a big open road that is at 55 speed limit. Its about 3 miles in the subdivions and 4 miles on the 55mph road one way to school, 5 days a week. Other than that I do city driving so I hit stop signs and stop lights, then weekend traffic is awful! This past week I have passed 2 people on the way to school because they were going 40 in a 55 so that made my MPg drop some... But here it is ::drumroll please::

11mpg! :concern: Yup...I have calculated it before and got 13mgp...this really pisses me off. I know I did not buy my Xterra for the mpg but still come on they advertise it getting 16/18??

Oh and im only running a pml...this is why im about to lower my front back down and see if it gets better.

Wow.... That is crazy dude. I thought my gas millage was bad but I don't feel so bad now averaging about 17.. With everything considering (4-wheel drive, obsession with driving fast) i guess I'm coming out good. Might just wanna try tuning it up bro because that's worse than a full size suburban.

Yup...Heres what I did. Put $30 in last weekend it got me to about 3/4 full... I drove all this week (156 miles) took me to above 1/4. I filled up til the pump stopped. It used 14.9 gallons...
Take 156 divided by 14.9 and you actually get 10.5
Ridiculous....

Im going to slow it down this next week and a half and see if I get any better milage...or there may be change coming in the future.

Aaron, you need to check your tune dude! Timing, clean your MAF, check/replace your plugs, check your cap and rotor, keep the A/C off (remember, even the defrost mode will turn your A/C on) and lay off the jack rabbit starts.

On long trips, we're getting 22mpg, but that's doing 75-80mph on the interstate, A/C on from Denver to Amarillo and back. In my '05, I got upwards of 27mpg if I didn't lay on the throttle and used cruise most of the way at a lower speed (70-75mph).

I think im getting ~11-14 mpg it pretty bad i fill up once a week, since i drive 30mins to work/school everyday. The lift and tires arent helping either.

Eh, I haven't done a tune up in a while either. I average about 17-18.5 depending on where I"m going. I travel home once every few weeks (230 miles), which is about 30min of city driving just to get to the interstate. Tack on another 20-50 miles of campus driving and I still average closer to 17.5. When I travel on the interstate, I usually keep it around 67 since there is really no reason for me to speed home late at night.

15.7 on the last 3 tanks. I've got a 5spd 4x4 2002.

I have city driving every day for about 5 miles, then another 9 miles of highway/interstate. On the way home from work, I drive ALL interstate to avoid rush hour traffic in the city..that route is an extra 2 miles, so 16 miles total on the way home.

Am I reading this right? Looks like you started with 3/4 tank then used how much it took to get back to a FULL tank after driving. If so, there's your problem. That would make it seem like you burned 1/4 tank more than you actually did.

Anyway, I normally get 14.5 MPG during the week. I drive 11.5 miles each way for work and have ten traffic lights. I also go up a mountain on a very curvy two lane road on the way home, but some of the extra fuel burned going up must surely be saved going back down.

Man, I thought I got bad mileage. A full tank on the freeway gets me an average of 17.5 MPG. Now I consider myself Lucky.

Sounds about right. Not exactly going to win any fuel economy awards but it's a lot better than what you thought it was last time.

I just filled up with ethanol-free gas to see if I can see how much it will increase my mileage, I will post here with my results next weekend.

Cool. I'm interested to see how it turns out. On one of my motorcycles it makes a 5mpg difference. That's the only thing I've tried it on though. I figured it averaging four tanks of each. Another thing to consider is if your area uses a different fuel blend for summer versus winter. They do here and my '91 240SX gets a consistent 28mpg on the summer blend and 24mpg on the winter blend. The first year I owned it I though it was due to the colder weather then I found out about the different blends. Sure enough, the next winter we had a couple of weeks of way above normal temps and it didn't help the fuel mileage one bit.

I haven't tried any experiments with the Xterra but now I'm wondering about something. This year and last I took trips to Florida in November. Both times I used less fuel on the return trip back to TN and couldn't figure why. Now I'm wondering if it could be because when I fill up before leaving central Florida I'm getting the same blend as we have in the summer. Hmm...

Update: I have noticed a definite increase in power and octane ping/rattle is completely gone. To fill up it took $59 from empty with the gas light on. I may have to refill cause my wife enjoyed the new power and lead-footed her way around town. Silly wifey.

I try to use ethanol-free gas all of the time. It nets much better mileage with my 2nd gen. It's also better for the engine.

So far I'm loving it. Have you been able to calculate the difference between fuels? I am curious as to exactly how much it helps. I don't have extra dough to dump in the tank, but if it can be justified. . .

Thanks for the addition Ryan.

I run about 15 mpg with the 10% ethanol gas. I can do 19 mpg with the ethanol free gas. Ethanol free gas cost 10 cents more per gallon. A full tank for me is 21 gallons meaning that each ethanol-free tank cost $2.10 more than the 10% ethanol tank, however I get ~80 more miles in an ethanol free tank. To do the same mileage for a 10% ethanol tank, I would need to purchase an additional 5.33 repeating gallons. Which means that as long as gas stays above $0.39 a gallon (which I assume it will), the ethanol saves me around $14 a tank.

Outstanding! Thanks for sharing Ryan. Sadly, around here ethenol-free gas is ~$0.50 more than the ethenol counterpart. I have been tracking stations that sell it, they are all expensive.

we just drove to Kansas City & back running 78-80 mph in the notorious Okla wind we averaged 15.2. I'd like to see a bit better but she is bone stock so maybe a drop in k&n & the resonator delete might help a bit, but of course that ethanol blend sh!% that passes for gas these days doesn't help either

As of recently I have been averaging 17-18 mpg, but that is because I am in the college kid mode, with no jack rabbit starts, no drag racing, and being smart when yo put the AC on, or have the windows down.. 55 mph is the threshold that you change over Windows down < 55 < AC. I also don't drive much, other than home, which is an 80 mile haul there and an 80 mile back.. but filling up in Boone and then driving home, I have averaged 17 mpg.. which I am beyond happy with..

Ok, we got about 210 miles from that tank of non-ethenol fuel, BUT it was all in-town driving and my wife admitted having more of a lead-foot than usual. Considering I get 250 miles per tank of ethenol-enriched gas on long freeway trips, I am probably getting slightly better mileage on the non-ethenol fuel. I will go through a couple more tanks to really get a good idea of the difference.

What makes you think you have a Rad leak? Make sure there's no Coolant in your oil?

But now that the weather has turned cold it has stopped leaking.
