Broken leaf

So I searched this forum for info on rear leaves breaking. I’m looking at an 00 X that has a broken rear spring. Mostly I’m wondering if the rear leaf packs from an 03 Frontier would work as there is a Frontier in my local wrecking yard. Also thinking they would provide a little extra load capacity.

Nope. I believe the eye spacing is different on the Fronty. And most (but strangely not all) are spring over.

i replaced both on mine recently, super easy. Parts were relatively cheap at Rockauto too.

Note that you will have to drop the gas tank skid plate to get the pass. side front mounting bolt off. If you live in the rust belt this may be a problem as the bolts holding the skid on will surely break if rusty.

I didn't have to remove the gas tank skid plate to replace the rear springs (I used two wrenches - not sockets - to loosen the bolts that attach the forward ends of the springs). I used a floor jack to pry one of those wrenches hard enough to loosen the nuts.

The nut attaching the top of the passenger side shock was also a PITA.

Really? Thats weird. On my 2000, the bolt mounts from the inside out, the nut was on the outside. I contemplated flipping this around upon re-install but figured there must have been a reason Nissan did it this way.

I have a 2011, and my bolts were also mounted with the nuts on the outside. There was enough room to access the bolt heads and nuts and remove the bolts without touching the skid plate - but just barely. Maybe the dimensions changed on newer models.
