Diff lock sensor

Hi,
I have a problem with some vdc, slip and abs lights coming on. I did have the truck scanned at the dealer and it came out with couple codes including the diff lock sensor. It seems to be consistant with the fact that it came on for the first time when i just disengaged the diff lock.

Anyways, i was wondering if some of you knew how to diagnostic a broken diff lock sensor. From what I understand, it looks like a pain in the ass to replace and I dont want to change it if that is not the problem.

My guess would be that it is a different resistance from the sensor depending od the position of the lock but I cant find those values anywhere. It might even be an open/close swith but I guess then the computer wouldnt be able to tell if the wire was cut or anything.

Do you know where I could find the diagnostic charts for that or some wiring diagrams?

Thanks.

Thanks guys, that link really helped. It turned out it really was the diff lock position switch that is bad. I tried tu disconnect it but I was disconnecting the actuator. I found in your link that I wasnt working on the right connector. Once unhooked, everything works normally.
Now i just have to figure out if i replace the switch (seems like a pain in the ass) or if I leave it like that for now.

Maybe i should flush the rear diff fluid to make sure i dont have a piece of the switch stucked in there that would cause damage.

Thanks again, truly appreciated.

Hi guys, I’ve bought a 2005 off road trim. The lock light keeps flashing as I switch the lock button. It does operate the lock tho. I think the problem is in the position sensor.
Anybody knows where I can buy it? Or if anybody knows the part number for the sensor, still would be helpful.
I took the sensor off but didn’t find any numbers on it.

Thanks in advance

I'll dig through the FSM when I get home tonight. I can't remember EXACTLY what they call that part. Nissan has a track record for naming their parts really stupidly. Once I find the name, I bet I can find the P/N.

That’d be great, thanks

I got that light flashing too.
Winter is coming really fast up here in Quebec and i want that diff lock to engage .
After 2 month of owning an xterra , is the last thing that dont work on it .
I already repair the roof rust under the rack and windshield, change the blower resistor. Paint the entire under carrier and frame with por15. Add windows visor ( weather tech)
Add oem hitch and 7 pins plug and harness...
But , i have really no idea where to start looking for that rear diff lock lol , any tips?

I have a 2006 off road, 135K miles. runs great in 2 hi, 4 hi, and 4 lo. everything works as it should except..

I also am having problems getting my diff to lock. I have tried all kinds of things. I have read all kinds of posts and am sure I am engaging it correctly. it worked about a month ago no problems. I have changed the diff fluid 2 weeks ago, someone suggested that, but no changes.

I got under the truck this weekend with a volt meter. there are 2 connectors on top of the diff. I pulled the one that is closest to the passenger side and got about 4 volts there. I dont know if this is the right connector to check? I also dont know if 4 volts is what should be there?

As I have been reading about this alot, I have found that most people who are having problems with there diff locking, post on a forum and get some advice but then never report back what fixed it. so I am a little lost as to what to do next. I think there are 3 things i can do if I had just a little feed back

1 change the solenoid, however I dont know where that is? or what part number to look for

2 is there a position sensor? where? has there ever been a report that changing one fixed there diff lock issues?

3 do the bypass mod. I can do this but, I have no way of knowing is this will fix my issue.

thanks
