Need tires...losing my mind

I have never had such a difficult time choosing tires. If you look online at reviews every tire is 4-5 out of 5 stars. Like a bad tire was never made. Then you look at tirerack and while most of the reviews are positive their color coded charts just obliterate consumer confidence in a tire.

I need 16" on my 2010. Any suggestions? I like Goodyear but I am told that the Fortitude and Fuel Max are junk. Was looking at the Kumho Crugen HT51. Color me crazy but the affordable price makes me question it being a good tire.

We can figure this out.

First, what do you want out of a tire? Do you ever wheel? Do you want tread that is going to last forever on the road? What are you doing with the truck?

Give us some direction and I know we can point you to the right tire

What he said. Give us some background. Highway? Daily driver? Rock toy? Mud toy? All around general use tire?

Welcome BTW.

I totally forgot to mention this is for day to day and highway use. Like the Michellin Defenders are nice but super pricey. Looking for a alternative.

I am replacing Goodyear Tripletred which was a good tire but was noisey and Id like something quieter.

Look at Cooper tires. I've been very happy with them as of late. I put ATPs on the wife's Pathy. She's 95% highway and they've been great for almost 40k miles. Still have plenty of tread left.

Coopers look great but possibly too rugged for the amount if highway travel. Anyone have an opinion on Goodyear Fortitudes or Kumho Crugen HT51? Ive never even heard of Kumho!!! But the reviews are good.

I've got a set of E rated (10ply) Hankook dynapros. I have about 8k on them excellent highway tires. They are quiet roll smooth and steady, in the wet the are good. fuel consumption is better than my off road tires.....off road or snow not so much. I use them as my summer highway tripping/DD tires. for offroad and winter I use Treadwright Guard Dogs,31/10.5/15 on old lego wheels.

Michelin Defenders are sweet! Love them on 2 of my previous vehicles. For alternatives, have you looked at Uniroyal Tiger Paws? They are essential Michelin rejects out of same factory that meets D.O.T requirements but not quite up to pair to meet Michelin requirements. Characteristics are similar. However, they usually take a little more weight to balance then the Mich due to being a little more out of round.

If Michelin made a mud tire, I'd be all over it. They are the only company that makes a truly round tire.

They kinda do. They own BFG. Has a high schooler busting tires for a Goodyear Gemini I remember how well Michelin's balanced compared to other tires. Consistently took much less weight across the product line. But, that was a long time ago (20yrs). Has good has their highway tires have been. I can't say I've ever been that impressed with KM2's, KO's or KO2's. Lot of folks rave about the KM3 in which I have 0 experience with.

I loved the LTX MS2 I had on my truck but they dry rotted before I could wear them out.

Not gonna get either one of us any off road cred around here, but I have the Kumho Crugen HT51 on my X right now. If you can handle the grocery getter/soccer mom jokes they are great. Smooth, quiet, great in the snow, priced right. They also really compliment my stock steps and mud flaps. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the on road performance and Kumho is a legit company.

Round ones , get round ones
It's funny you say that. One time I was tire shopping for a sports car. I asked the salesman if they true tires here at their shop. His reply was they are true from the factory, haha. My reply to him was "oh, so the manufacturer already knows what rims I am using?" He had a rather puzzled look on his face. He was clueless what I was asking to be done. Granted manufacturers have gotten much better at making a truly round tire. But you would be surprised how well a tire performs at high speed after being trued.

I've been running Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires in factory Pro4X sizing for a couple years and have been pleased with them.

So far, they are wearing well (rotate every 7000 miles) , handle very well in wet weather, tackle Georgia mud just fine and are fairly quiet for an aggressive all terrain tire.

There are good tires made by many manufacturers including Cooper, General, Firestone etc etc etc.
The Falkens were purchased at a bargain price at Walmart (special order) which helped make my decision

If you’re mostly freeway driving and MPG’s are important to you keep an eye on tire weight every extra pound a tie or you’re pushing around takes more power to move and will lower your fuel economy
