HOwdy, All

...... What to say ? Probly' like a few others, looking for other folks knowin' the 'Agony n' Ecstasy ' of tryin' to maintain your own ' stuff '.

I got away from 'off-road' when I gave my 87' Pathfinder to the son-in-lay ( 330 K , still running, original gear ).

Found I was needing 4wd for light duty off road so , took the plunge w/ a 2004 Xterra XE. There seemed to be a similarity between the X and the Pathfinder that looked promising.

Havin' second thoughts real quick. First off changed out the T Belt, W Pump, Accsy' Belts and so on. First thing I get for my effort is a SES.

Hey, i got about no experience w/ the scanners. Borrowed one and found 4 codes. Later, it was down to 2 and one of em' is the one I don't want, Downstream sensor , Bank 2.

So, been doing Lots and lots of searching w. not a lot of answers.

Hoping there's something I might know of use to someone else... maybe I'll get lucky and find some of the info I"m chasing.

Best to All, W Dogg

Howdy ,,,, I'm seein' the dreaded PO432 , along w. one regarding the EGR. Local service place indicated that almost always means the Cat is bad. He suggested using an ' extender ' on the O2 sensor as a work around. Anyway, it got me , for the ' new ' X , looking deep into parts and labor prices. WoW ! It ain't pretty. Making it so much worse is wading around without Factory Numbers and / or Service Manual. The non - dealership repair guy told me they had learned to stay away from much of the non Oem parts. Just doing a general search for OEM Nissan parts , Xterra, doesn;t often get me where I wan to find the data.. Guess it's going to be steep learning curve

Welcome to XN WoodDog..

Your P0432 OBD II code is and would be virtually the same 1st or 2nd gen. Some slight variances in maybe the specifics of the repair but all are OBD IIb codes (98+). Some are vehicle/Manufacture specific. - Additional info for you to have https://www.obd-codes.com/p0432

When it comes to sensors, We would be one of the first to travel more often to original Nissan parts rather than the big box store brands. Typically they all get their parts from the same manufactures just in their independent boxes and labels.., all the same issues of course.

And I'm almost positive I personally have a .PDF 2004 FSM, I or others too could share [privately].

Many thanks for the reply .. I'm still stumbling around trying to determine where I stand w/ the Xterra. I planned on buying some good ' data ' but I'm only seeing the hi-dollar FSM's on Ebay. There is a CD on the Bay that hints it is much the same as the printed material. I may have to take a shot there. I'm finding the codes have changed from what I got right after the Timing belt change. It seems to be sticking with the P1400 and P0400, Those seem to be pretty common and, unfortunately, not so easy to fix. I wondered what the small piece of wire bristle was doing stuck in one of the pipes, as I was taking it apart. I think now I know. Apparently someone had been dealing w/ the same problem and was scrubbing through any tube that could be accessed. Well, I've seen one, I think, fair video on the tube that goes through the process of using a multimeter to try and get some answers. Looks like I'm gonna have to start there. I had no idea these vehicles could be so ' delicate ' ?? I'm beginning to think it might be best to move it on if I can find a way to get it to pass emissions. I was looking forward to running this thing to , at least, 300 K miles. I figured if I could get 330 out of the 87' VG30 , then this newer one should hang in there as well !! ..... Appreciate the ' howdy ' , the advice and the FSM offer !! ........

Did you download them all before Nico Club pulled them?

I DL many well before when I first found them available and truth be told, I have a rather "articulate" and Internet savy friend who is also in the Nissan Xterra world who rooted them out before they were all but gone.

So yes.. and no ;)

They do offer a wealth of information in my library of files when I can't figure something out.
