Ok 1st gen guys. I need your help. Share your experiences with tire fitment. Size, wheel, offset, spacers, lift, req'd cutting, etc. We'll try to compile it all into one place.

From my experience, let me give you an example. All posts should follow this format.

Tire Size: 33x12.50x15
Tire Make/Model: Goodyear DuraTrac
Wheel: Stock 15x7 Desert Runner
Backspacking: 5.5"
Spacers Req'd: Yes. At least 1.25" to clear frame rails in the rear and control arms up front.
Cutting Req'd: Yes.
Lift on Truck: 3" Calmini front w/ SAW Torsion Bars, Calmini AAL and AC Shackles in rear. 2" Body Lift
Notes: I cut my front fenders all the way back to the tub for clearance. With the stock front bumper, also have to remove the lower vertical plastic.

Lift: PML
Tire Size:
265/75/R16
Tire Make/Model: Goodyear DuraTrac Wrangler
Wheel: Stock 16"
Backspacking: 5.5"
Spacers Req'd: Optional. Since the GY DuraTracs have sidewall tread, they will rub on the LCAs at when fully locked if you don't have spacers. I don't use spacers and it hasn't been a problem. Other tires without aggressive sidewall tread probably wont rub.
Cutting Req'd: Yes, but minimal and only cutting plastic fenders. See my build thread for exact locations and amount.

Tire Make/Model: Dick Cepek Fun county
Wheel: custom 15" with flat plate center
Backspacking: 5"
Spacers Req'd: No, I had the option of running a 1/4" spacer or shaving my brake calipers. I choose to shave the caliper
Lift: 1 1/2" PML with a 2" body lift.
Cutting Req'd: Removed mud flaps and trimmed plastic on the inside.

I think we should include the lift we have on the trucks. I would hate for some guy to think he can stuff 33's under a stock X

No.

I should clarify.

The BFG 33x10.50 probably would fit with just a 2" BL as the width is more of a problem than the height of the tire.

They would fit without spacers and cutting into the bodywork? I'd eventually want to get 33's. But don't want to cut into the body...

Is there anyway to fit 33inch tires on a body and suspension lifted xterra without cutting any metal?

I just put Goodyear wranglers on the BFG kos rubbed the wranglers did not no cutting or trimming. I think I could trim out the plastic lip on the mud flap and stop the rubbing. just put them on today.

Looking to put new tires and wheels on my 2004 XEX.No lift. What is the largest tire I can fit on stock suspenion?

I have 235/85/R16 (31"-32") Good Year Wrangler Duratrac tires and they fit no problem. Mind you they have 1/4 tread so not sure how much of a difference they are between brand new.

I have an open style tube bumper in the front, so I can't comment on trimming bumper plastic on the front edge of the front tires.

ATX1.JPG

^^^Tire Size: 33x12.50 R 15
Tire Make/Model: General Grabber ATX
Wheel: Stock 15x7 snow flake rim
Backspacking: 5.5
Spacers Req'd: Not exactly, but maybe recommended (or rim with less back space). Rear tires are very close to frame rails and will rub when the rear axle flexes off road (highly recommend a spacer here). Front tires rubbed on the lower control arms and frame rails at full lock.
Lift: 3" upper control arms in the front, regular lift shackle in the rear. 2" body lift. The width causes the rubbing though, so more lift isn't the right fix. Wheel spacers or less offset rims are the best answer.
Cutting Req'd: Snip some of the plastic inside the wheel well at the mud flap. Need to adjust steering stops to reduce wheel travel at full lock so you don't rub things
Comments: Tire shops are hard to find that will mount a 12.50 tire on a 7 inch wide rim. They had trouble getting the clip on wheel weights on the lip of the rim due to the side wall bulge, but eventually got it. The bubble look of the wide tire will also cause the tread to not sit completely flat at "normal" street pressures, which can wear out the center part of the tread faster. You may have to play around with lower tire pressures to get it to flatten out. This size is definitely floaty feeling, which I actually like as the ride is more comfortable. Grabber ATX seems to be a good tire so far with low road noise, handles rain well, etc.

^^^Tire Size: 33x10.50 R15
Tire Make/Model: BF Goodrich KM2
Wheel: Stock 15x7 snow flake rim
Backspacking: 5.5"
Spacers Req'd: No
Lift: 3" upper control arms in the front, regular lift shackle in the rear. 2" body lift.
Cutting Req'd: Snip some of the plastic inside the wheel well at the mud flap. Adjust steering stops so right tire didn't rub the brake line shield on the frame rail when turned all the way to the right.

Comments: The 10.50 width fits the stock rims well, and fully flexes into the wheel wells with no issues or rubbing. The KM2s wore out in 27k miles and got very loud. They were great off road, but not great on road. Very aggressive and looked awesome, though.

Well I can see why no one wanted to follow Bklyn.X’s monster machine with a puny tired stock X, but hey I have no pride so I’ll sacrifice myself here to keep the tire thread alive

Tire Size: 265/75 r16 load E (they seemed so much bigger before I saw this thread )

Tire Make/Model: Thunderer MT (from Walmart FedExed to the Big Island for $160 per tire!! If you had any idea how hard it is to get stuff like this shipped to AK or HI you would be as amazed as I was when these things showed up in my driveway ☺️)

Wheel: Stock 16” aluminum
Backspacing: Stock
Spacers: Stock 2002 SE
Cutting Req’d: Slight rubbing passenger side. After examining found that passenger side was riding about 3/4” lower than driver side so adjusted torsion bar.
Trimmed front wheel plastic on both front wheel wells both the bumper and mud flaps to make sure that there will be no off road rubbing. Cut plastic by marking with tape then heating 3-4 inches with heat gun then cutting with utility knife. Warm plastic cut like butter. Very easy. Tested heating on a small piece of plastic first. Smoothed cuts with a Stanley Surform plane/rasp. See photos below for amount trimmed (photos are before smoothing with rasp). Cuts were made along joins and top of tape. Can’t really tell anything was cut afterwards

Best part of tires are these cool lightning ⚡️ bolts

Well, since I've upgraded my tires...

Tire Size: 265/75r16
Tire Make/Model: kenda Klever AT2 Load Ehttps://www.intercotire.com/tire_brand/trxus_mt_radial
Wheel: OEM Stock
Backspacking: 5.5"
Spacers Req'd: No.
Cutting Req'd: None, but I also have no mud flaps
Lift on Truck: None
Notes: My rig may be pml'd already, but if so, it was that way when I bought it. Adjustable AC shackles in the rear, but they're mainly used to compensate for the weight of the rear bumper.
