2004 Xterra SE w/ Rockford Fosgate stereo system

My front door speakers have started cutting out after 13 years of use so I figure the rest are soon to follow and might as well replace everything.

I have been looking at these for the front:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R165X3/Rockford-Fosgate-Prime-R165X3.html?tp=105&avf=Y

And these for the rear:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R1525X2/Rockford-Fosgate-Prime-R1525X2.html?tp=105&avf=Y

Just looking for some positive or negative feedback on these. Any better suggestions? Places to get them cheaper? Any input is appreciated. I've never bought speakers before.

Honestly, if you are not running an external amplifier I would pick whatever brand you like best, chose the speaker in that brand that fits your budget adn go on. Anything is going to be an upgrade from stock. I dont know anything about their brand as far as speakers like that go. The materials /stats they have seem very similar to other speakers in that price range. I wouldnt be scared to try them. I honestly think most speakers in that price range from known vendors are about the same. I usually use JVC / Pioneer for stock replacements and those seem similar.

Don't the RF speakers have an odd impedance though? Thought I heard they weren't a standard 8 ohm.

Might have to check that for sure. I wouldnt think standard door speakers would be off, but I know they make odd impedance woofers, yes.

And for the record, if I buy speakers, I buy them from Crutchfield. Even if you could save a few bucks elsewhere, Crutchfield gives you all the stuff you need to install them free, free installation instructions, and free tech support. Hard to go wrong with that.

I actually have an external amp for a 10" sub, sorry forgot to mention that. But I was hoping I'd be able to plug them right into where the OEM speakers are. Or does it not work like that? Lol

I found them cheaper on Amazon, but good point.. might stick with Crutchfield.

Sure, your head unit will power those fine, just like it does now. I like crutchfield myself, because there is no doubt Im getting just what i need and if I have issues (I did once on my buddies Trailblazer, issue with the factory amp and they walked me through it perfectly). As for the speakers, if I was just looking for a factory replacement speaker, powered by the head unit, I cant see why those wouldnt work perfectly.

Might go with Crutchfield too for that reason, knowing me I'll need some additional instruction.
Thanks for the help man.

One last question! Will the 5 1/4" circular speakers linked in the OP work in the rear? Or do I need 6x9" speakers? Which is believe is the stock speaker dimensions.

What he said. But double check, Crutchfield may give you the adapter since they show those speakers as fitting.

you'll want 6x9. You'll have to fab your own bracket to make 5 1/2 fit

According to their website the speakers "fit with bracket" so would that mean they come with the bracket/adapter?

Answered by own question! Did a little digging on their website and the speakers come with the bracket. I'll let you guys know how the install goes when I get them. Thanks again.

I do audio for a living. Heed my advice. If you are replacing speakers, you'll want the 6x9s in the back. the low end response is SOOO much better than anything a 5 1/4" speaker can produce.

Thanks for the heads up. I only ordered the 2 front speakers for now, but when the time comes I'll be sure to get 6x9s for the rear.

Another question for you, a lot of places sell speakers in pairs. Stock, I have 1 sub and 1 speaker in the rear. Would it be easily possible to replace the sub with another 6x9 speaker? Since I already have an aftermarket sub

Yes. The body work is unchanged. So a 2nd 6x9 will bolt right in. I'll have to take another look at the schematic for the RF system, but I don't think you have to change the wiring at all.

Pretty sure you dont, and if you decide to sell the factory RF sub and enclosure, I wouldnt mind having it. Thats a pretty simple thing to replace as I remember.

Just checked the schematic. Sub is driven by the left rear output (and right rear), so just need to swap out the harness end.

On Crutchfield's website it said somewhere the sub is 8" so a little trimming would have to be done to fit a 6x9" speaker, but that could be incorrect.

I'd probably keep the enclosure because I have a weather mat in the rear that fits it, but I'd sell the stock sub. I'll let you know if I do.

That's what I was hoping. Thanks

The enclosure is a plastic box that bolts to the side of the truck and fills the factory 6x9 hole. Remove the enclosure and install the 6x9.
