So I noticed my steering started making some unnatural sounds after a day in the woods. Checked the fluid, very low. Checked the lines, dry. Hmm, then I noticed the puddle under the steering box and pitman arm was covered in fluid.

I'm guessing it's just a seal. So has anyone else done this job and can give me any advice on it? I found a seal kit on rock auto that should do both the input shaft seal and pitman shaft seal. Any information would be great.

I have the same issue. I ordered just the pitman arm seal and then the input started leaking haha. Haven't fixed it yet though.

So it was just a seal then? Was it pretty straight forward to do? I wound up buying the kit for both and figured just do them both while I'm at it

I had this same problem with my xterra.being a broke college kid I filled my entire steering reservoir up with Lucas stop leak. Worked great and didn't have to add any but every now and then. The downside was it made for some stuff steering until the truck warmed up.

I am curious how hard this would be to do. My project xterra is leaking and was debating fooling with this is just going the Lucas route

I had this issue with mine. Tried doing the seals three times, and they all blew off under pressure. Ended up replacing the whole gear box.

Well I was finally able to get this done. Took way longer than it should have because my snap ring pliers wouldn't reach but other that it was super easy to do.
