So I am starting a new thread since I am having isues with my old thread. I have a 00 xterra with 200 on it. It was running fantastically untell it started misfiring leaving the car wash. Pulling he codes gave me a cylinder 3 miss code. At first it was a little stumble that would pass after a second then it got to where it would act up untell I got up the speed then disappear eventually it started regestering a multi cylender misfire that would clear up once I would rev past 3k but now it will start to miss going down the road then clear up only to come back a cople of minutes later. So far I have
Changed plugs and wires
Changed distributer asembaly including coil
Changed fuel filter
Set timing to 15 btdc (corect for 00)
Air filter has less than 4k on it
Oil has less than 2k on it
Maf and throttle body have both been cleaned with the last oil change.
Dosnt smoke black or blue
Don't loose oil or coolant

So I am down to
Fuel pump
Fpr
Watter in the tank?
Fuel injector
Wireing (I Realy hope not)

What do you all think the next logical move is?

Some kind of vacuum leak maybe? I don't know if it would throw a misfire code but it would make you engine not run right.

I sprayed starter fluid around all the vacume lines but couldn't find anything there. I used a screw driver the check the injectors on that side and they all seem to be firing but 3 dose sound a little dull but that might just be me. I might try pluging off the resenators intake side of the maf and see if I'm leaking around one of them

I had and issue close to this and it turned out to be a MAF. The little connector tab that the wire hooks to was broke. So it just got worst and worst. Also check the black hose between the maf and the throttle body for a possible leak. I know you said you cleaned the MAF but maybe its just flat out going bad.

check this thread out he solves his issue on page 2

I know you are not dying, yet.....or are you? Yes you are and have been since you were born...

So I unplugged the maf and it got way worse so I think it's working and I haven't bee throwing a lean or rich code. I am going to ohm the injectors and maby swap 2 and 3 and see if my misfire moves. It looks like I can get in to the pasanger side fule rail without pulling the intake off the engine. I'm also going to go to the auto parts store and test the fuel pump

So I had an idea at work this morning... I know scarry. I unplugged the cylender 3 injector low and behold no change in how the engine ran. So I ohmed it and found infinite resistance where as the cylender 1 injector was right around 13 ohm. I think my injector had kicked the bucket. I will try swapping the injectors between 3 and 1 and see if my misfire moves with the injector but that will wait untell I find where my scanner whent.

There still could be. You know for a fact already that the injector is not operating because you unplugged it and nothing changed so you already know that the issue will move when you move the injector creating an unnecessary step in your investigation.

I had a beard but they made me shave it for my ER clinical... I am ordering a reman injector but am starting to wonder if it would be worth it to order all 6 and just do them all at once. I can get at the pasanger 3 without pulling the intake but if I do all 6 I could fix my knock sensor while I was I there.

If you're not supercharged, don't make the extra effort to get at it.

Already checked for vacume leaks with a can of starter fluid but nothing from that, o did replace the vacume line on the dash pot over the summer when I developed a cracked in it up in the mountains coming back from a weding. I usury do a quick check for vacume leaks when I do oil ever since my 4runner had the entire vacume system rebuilt (took about 3 hours of running vacume line)

The injector came today. Installed it but had to replace the screws

After a rough start the truck runs like new.

The old injector was cracked when it came out.

Any body that's interested they are 5mm with a .8 pitch thread I used alen key bolts since I have ball end alen keys that makes it easyer to get in to the tight corners in the engine. You also need a 5 mm lock washer.

I avoid removing anything I don't absolutely have to. I did have to remove a ground bolt and move the wireing loom.
