So I had my engine swapped going from a 04 to a 01 engine. It is idleing rough and looses power and when trying to go over 40mph gets a random missfire code. Things that have been done to try fix it new distributor, new distributor cap, nkg plugs, reset the timing it is at 11 degrees . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

check to make sure the people that installed the new engine didnt plug in the o2 sensors back words. they are on the passenger side valve cover just unplug them and reverse them the plugs are the same. see if that makes it any better or worse

I finally had time and checked the 02 sensors and they were pluged in correctly. I monitored their operation with my obd ll and they seem to be funtioning properly. I have been driving my X for the last few days and it has power now but when idling it will get a "pending code random missfire multiple cylinders". I'm going to probably take it to the garage my brother works at and have him go through it to find the problem.

I looked it up, I was wrong. Timing is 10° on a 2001...

I had a quick conversation with my brother; who is also a mechanic and will be also working on it if I can't figure it out. He told me to check to see if all the plug wires are completely on, check for a vacuum leak by spraying some starter fluid around the intake manifold, and something else I can't remember. After I woke up in done some reading on it and they suggested cleaning the mass air flow sensor which I done and it did not help.

Oh it also started kicking up the P0300 code while idleing I contacted the guy that done the swap and he did not get back to me.

Is the crank position sensor plugged in/not broken? I'm not sure if it would cause all the problems you are having but just like the o2 sensors it's worth a try. It's on the drivers side of the bell housing kind of a pain to get to I was able to access mine through the wheel well but the 2 in body lift made that a little easier.

i had a p0300 code and it turned out to be the bearing in the distrubutor . it went bad so i changed it and havent had a problem since.

Oh to update this I finally got my xterra to my brother's shop after years of me trying to find the cause of the misfire and it turned out to be a o2 sensor causing it. He disconnected it and I have not had any p300 codes since. Now I need to get it replaced.
