Stereo wiring

Hi everybody I am pulling my hair out because I am installing a new stereo in my 2002 Xterra and I've gotten 2 wiring harnesses that say they are for Nissan's of that year but the wiring harnesses do not work

I'm sure that there's something wrong with the wiring harnesses that I'm getting because they don't have a ground meaning that the adapter has connections between wires but there is no connection opposite of ground wire

Can anyone tell me which wiring harness to buy that will work? Thank you very much I love this forum it is very inspiring

Also, there is a problem w/ the X. I had it on my old truck and on the new truck. The stock harnesses are unchanged from something stupid like 1997 to now for Nissan. BUT. The X does not have a good ground in the harness for an aftermarket radio. It works for the stock radio, but for some reason it will not work on an aftermarket radio. On both of my trucks I had to snatch the ground wire out of the head unit harness and drop it directly on a ground screw behind the dash to get the radio to fire up.

Yes that's the problem there is no ground on the wiring harness. Can I pull the ground from the cigarette lighter power cord? Or where would I get it. Can I assume that any solid black wire is a ground wire? Theres some nice thick ones goin into what I assume is the amp below the stereo

I used one of the screws in the metal below the radio as a ground. Worked great. I wouldn't use the cigarette lighter, but the amp ground should work.

Also the stock stereo had a skinny multi pin connector with two wires going to it both yellow with stripes. Is this the steering controls? I read on this board that the reverse wire was a yellow striped wire, could one of these be a back up wire? Sounds too easy

So you've got the Rockford system with the steering controls?

The steering controls consist of three wires. Two signal wires and a ground. You need a PAC adapter to make the controls work on an aftermarket radio.

Ok so #1 yep there was no ground on the wiring harness (the wire was there but there was no pin on the slot on the xteras connector) so I ran a wire to the body and it worked.

#2 then the radio was on but there was no sound . it was like the amp wasn't gettin power so. The blue and white cable coming out of the car wasn't attached to anything cause my radio didn't have one of those but I attached the blue / white to the blue from the radio which was labeled "power antenna / amplifier on" and behold it turned the amplifier on. Now its working.

I thought the sound was slightly warbally with the radio playing I think it might be cause I'm using thin guage (but solid) coper for the ground jumper and its not connected well. So im going to find fatter wire and screw it in tight to the metal in there.
