Bad Brake Fix after SAS

So after my swap my brakes were garbage.... pedal went straight to the floor....I did as much reading as I could find..Looks Like the common swap is either a early 90's 300zx master cylinder, a full size chevy truck, a dodge 1500, or a corvette....

I went with the Dodge 1500, it was readily available from Autozone, $67 with a lifetime warranty.

This thing Bolts right up...the ac line makes it a little tight but you can easily move it out of the way to get it mounted.
the only other piece you need is a m12 male to m10 female adapter
(something like thishttp://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman-autograde-brake-line-adapter-bubble-flare-m10-1.0-x-3-16-in.-x-m12-1.0-788-522/10120302-p?cm_mmc=PLA-_-Google-_-GPLA-_-10120302&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=10120302&ci_gpa=pla&ci_kw=&iv_=__iv_p_1_g_12425515822_x_pla_y_6201684_f_online_o_10120302_z_US_i_en_j_71042597542_s__n_g_t__d_c_v__vi__&gclid=Cj0KEQiA1NWnBRDchObfnYrbo78BEiQA-2jqBVyeMGIZ35SESN0VMvQPY6W4zg_uPovOzJO3w-6LrtgaAp--8P8HAQ#utm_source=pla&utm_medium=google&utm_campaign=gpla&utm_content=10120302)

After those parts it completely bolts right up.

There is alot of different opinions on leaving the abs box or ditching it.... I left mine in just for ease of install... the pedal is firm and it stops just as well if not better then stock.

Now you just need to bleed the brakes, and you ready to go!

That's really cool! Anyone ditched their ABS box on IFS?

I'm ditching my ABS box because one I have SAS so it's no longer functional, and two I need the room for other stuff under the hood. It will be coming out this next week if I dont pull it today.

I'm in the I need the room camp. I have abs lights that come on and off at random times and really could live without it.

Xterror, what year dodge 1500 master did you use? I went in and had them look up a mid 90s (96 to be exact) and it doesn't bolt up and has std fittings not metric.

Looking at the part number he posted up, looks to be a '98 - '01. I'll probably be snagging one in the next couple weeks when I go to change out for discs in the rear.

So I took the one I had picked up back and swapped out for a 98, works like a charm and is way larger. Thanks Xterror for throwing this info up and CaptainMorgan for clarifying. One thing though, I imagine yours sealed up fine at the m/c Xterror? however both the front and rear lines use a bubble flare on the m/c end instead of the inverted flare the stock xterra one uses, so you should really get an adapter for both brake lines, a m12x1.0 bubble flare male to m10x1.0 inverted flare female for the rear line and m10x1.0 bubble flare male to m10x1.0 inverted flare female for the front brake line.

Also an option to cut and reflare the lines with the correct flare and nut. I've had issues with adapters leaking in the past, so I don't even bother.

if you have the right adapters they should seal just like a flared line. That said, I just don't like to run more adapters than I have to so yes, I also cut and reflared the lines that come out of the ABS box so the will fit in the unions I bought cause I ditched the ABS box.

I went back to a master that has the ports on the correct side. The lines were getting hot from being directly over the headers...

The '98 dodge 1500 one I got has the lines on the right side, same as stock, hooks right up...with aforementioned adapters

xterror04, I had the same problem as you. I ended up removing the ABS box, re-bled the lines and it fixed the problem. Oh ya make sure the front calipers are on the right side so that the bleed nipple is on the top. Apparently on my dana axle they can be mounted both ways. The stock master cylinder works good, no need to replace it.

Yes get rid of the ABS unit and then your stock master will work. Also bleed , then bleed and then bleed more. Getting out all the air will take time. With my stock brake master I can stop quite fast with 35's.

remove the ABS unit. You can bleed the lines for days and will never get all the air out. Once I removed the ABS unit and hard tubed from the master to the brakes all my problems went away. The stock master will work.

I'll give that a shot since I'm not using the abs anyways

So it seems I have a weird X. Both lines from the truck are m12. Looked at a MC from AutoZone and they all had m10 ports. I think it had to do with the VDC. Anybody know if it'll be an issue to switch the line from 1/4 to 3/16?

Did 2000-2004 trucks have VDC? Asking because I do not know.

Yeah it's really annoying at this point. MC had an extra sensor. On it too. I'm going to switch out the line to 3/16s and use both m10 nuts with the reducer at the abs block and then eventually ditch the abs

Wow. I have an 04 and did not know that was an option as well...daymn....

btw you can just ditch the abs box and use the stock MC and be just fine on the braking power. A lot of people go that route when they SAS too.

I think I'm about to ditch it. Went with the smaller line abs m10 fittings with the m12 at the abs box and bled the system with a vacuum pump and still have a don't pedal
