One tons and never look back wishing you would have. Do it from the jump & save a lot of time/money.

Trust me, been there done that :)

Always liked the look of your X. Can't wait to see it with big boy axles & 4wd. Fwiw... Bite the bullet and put am atlas in there. Why? See comments above.

Good point lol True but when you are fully armored you aren't really saving weight either. My thoughts are having the heavy duty parts. I am having a np205 so that may over kill to some too. Also I have access to old hmmvw beadlocks and the 37 in tires they used too. That's why I'm thinking going to the d 60 Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

I've looked at the old H1 wheels, dot legal double bead locks, and one big issue popped up that stopped me from going after a set. Nobody carries ANY tires in a 16.5" wheel that I could find. That's a huge deal breaker. If I end up ruining a tire, or heaven forbid two, and I have to have a replacement to get home, if I have a 16.5x10" wheel and nobody stocks that rubber, I'm screwed. That's a no-go in my book.

Fully armored = can be dealt with. If you come up on something that you can't safely cross because of weight, armor can be dropped, axles can't.

Thanks Tim thats a good point. That's what I was thinking. Just like when I did the the ts, looking back I should have just gone this route.

I may just go with the atlas. Have all the good stuff and don't have to worry.

So it wouldn't be the H1 wheels. I will be using military style wheels. And those 37X12.5R16.5LT. And you can find Goodyear Military Wrangler MT/R a lot of places. Yea they are expensive but what tires aren't. Those hmmwv rims and tires are dot legal and we use them all the time.

True ya can't drop axle weight but if ya have to drop armor weight that means ya lose protection and ya have drop it then go back and pick it up. And the difference between a d 44 and d 60 isn't all that much. It's only around a 200 lb difference total. Then tire weight. But when pulling a trailer full of gear and food and all that for a long trip wouldn't ya want that added assurance that if there is some rough area that you can pass through it and not have to worry as much?

You must shop in luckier places than I, nobody around me carries a 16.5 tire...

I'm about 90% sure that H1's and HMMWV's use the same wheel (since it's the same truck)

In fact, when I was considering a set from trailworthyfab I checked Amarillo, Lubbock, all my surrounding little towns, and the best answer I got was "we can order 16.5" tires but we don't stock them" others just flat out couldn't get em. Checked around my part of Iowa I call home, more of the same, that nixed my idea of trailworthyfab's H1/HMMWV wheels for the X...

I am. I live right next to a Marine base that I was stationed on camp Pendleton. So I have the ability to get used military gear that isn't up to standards but that is still good.

The wheels are similar but there is some differences in them. I am pretty sure that they are a three piece wheel. But being where I am kinda gives me a plus. Like how I have two m101 military trailers.

Rear gear issue is fixed! I'll be running 4.08 in the rear and 4.10 up front. SteeevO is the man and helped me out with everything. Install kits front and rear and coming out with a spacer for the c200k for the 4.08 to work.
I'll be putting a parts list up a little later today

I'm pretty sure he'll start selling them it's just a question of how thick we need to go.

I'll post up an in depth parts list once I'm done but I'll warn ya this it will be easily 10 grand

I haven't looked too far into Dodge Dana 44's but are you removing the 2 piece axleshaft? I'm pretty sure they are unibearing correct? Any reason why the Dodge over say a Ford? Will you be upgrading shafts? Sorry if you've already answered these questions.

I'm not removing it right now. I am changing the vacuum disconnect to a manual pull cable one and running a mini spool and seeing how that works for now. No reason dodge over ford. Just found the dodge at a good price at the right time. I'm changing the hub over to a manual locking hub so it will be a spindle on reid racing knuckles. No upgraded shaft at this time just getting new replacement since I never had any.
