ok took a couple minutes to do a quick mod on the truck today. I ended installing the 175 lbs lift struts for the rear hatch,

and I also started looking at the strobe lights that I bought recently to see if they were any bit water proof/ resistant. well from what I found is that there is no way that these are water tight from the factory. I am going to need a bit of RTV at all of the assembly joints and where the wires go into the light pods to make them any sort of water tight. Good thing I will be able to work on them cause I haven't received my switches for them yet

did a rough install of the strobe lights, just to get them in before winter really hits since I have no garage to work on my rig during the winter time. that being said, I am still waiting on some switches, and a few other items ( starting a temporary winter mod pile) Video coming soon, just waiting for it to get a bit darker

they are daisy chained together, the strobe controllers are built into the lights themselves, so there are 2 switches, a SPST on/off and then a momentary on/on . the momentary switch is the one that changes through the different strobe patterns

ended up buying a few skids today from a local guy that sold his X yesterday. was able to procure hefty fabworks engine, trans, t-case and gas tank skid for $575 Canadian. ( keeping in mind that shipped directly from hefty to my house the cost to me would be $719 USD plus added customs fees and brokerage fees) these skids have never even seen the underside of an Xterra. the PO was still in the process of priming them.

At this point I don't have the skids in my possession yet. I am only available to go pick them up next Saturday. I will most likely end up getting new hardware anyways to ensure that they are grade 8 and as for the install instructions if I don't get them I can always rely on my Xterra online family for help lol

I was actually looking through the hefty website, and they have the install instructions listed there. same with what size bolts and all I need to properly complete the install ( other then figuring out how to remove one of the bolts on the gas tank skid that I snapped last summer ) going to be able to better figure it out come spring time when this cold is finally gone

Topless X

Some people have read the thread that I posted regarding a broken roof rack mound. today I had a few hours to and descided to remove my stock roof rack and start getting things ready for a bit of paint and gently used/new to me piece from a drbandkgb

so had to deal with 2 spinning nutcerts. one that I was able to grab with a set of needle nose vice grips, and one that just poped out of the roof ( bolt and all)

here are a couple pics

Oh man...those rev nuts are b**ches for sure! The Nissan thread lock is like glue...we used a 250 watt soldering iron to heat the rev nuts and help get them loose. I still had a spinner that I ripped out of the rear section of the rack. Nice switch mods too.

How does you trailer pull behind the X? Do you use any sway bars to help even the tow? My fiancée and I have been looking at/ogling used tent/pop up trailers for a bit now.

The Trailer is pushing the limits of the Xterra. but by no means do I feel unsafe with it. I use an Equalizer hitch and am running the OME leaf springs. I was using the stock leaf springs for the first summer and had to add helper springs because even with the equaliser hitch I was hitting the bump stops over every little bump. no now problem at all.

a good rule of thumb when buying a camper is to not excede 75% of the max towing capacity of the tow vehicle ( the dry weight of my camper is 3900 lbs)

also I get about 7-9 MPG when towing and I need to keep my speed at around 90 Km/H ( around 55MPH) and the truck does not like going up hills pulling the trailer either lol

Good to know...so with my Titan Swap I should get about 3mpg towing. Lol!!

been a busy modding weekend for me. as you see a couple posts above I was finally able to finish painting/ bed lining my roof rack and was able to install it on the rig again. today I added a couple stickers that I had building up ( still have a few to install )
oN6nlpn.jpg

and had Todd from graveyard graphics make me a custom sticker for a switch rocker that I got from OTRATTW. ( will comment on how it lasts with use)
iz2HZr4.jpg

and last one mocked up for today but unfortunately I need to wait a few more months before I can truly install and appreciate this sticker

so I figured out why my roof rack mounting piece broke this spring. I went out today wanting to re install my drop in roof basket. took out my tape measure and noticed that the roof rails are approx. 35" apart from center to center and that my roof rack was approx. 37" from mounting bracket to mounting bracket. I think I am going to tear this one apart change a few things in the design and start from scratch.

so ended up installing a set of extendable tow mirrors to the X today. while I was at it, I decided to add side marker lights since I had the doors torn apart
iKtJtOw.jpg

also ended up going on a recovery mission yesterday. A buddy drowned his F150 and abandoned it there overnight so me a the local off road club went to at least bring it to the city limits
here is a video of the winching I did out of the water
[video=youtube;lsgIcUzGIZU]

ended up using a snatch block on his bumper and doubled up my winch line. also had another Xterra acting as an anchor, then used 2 jeeps ( both anchored by other vehicles) to winch the dead F150 up a 400 Foot hill. we ended up leap frogging the 2 winches to get it up the hil

been having an issue with a dead right rear Wheel speed sensor on my 09 Off road model X. ordered the right wheel speed sensor for automatic transmission a couple weeks ago and to my surprise, the sensor that I got in the mail is bigger and shorter then the one I removed from my x

figured out that I had received the wheel speed sensor for a C200. contacted Rock auto and they stated that they did not know there was a difference. so they are sending me a Fed Ex waybill and are letting me return the item for a full refund.
great company to deal with. pleasant staff working in their call centers on a Saturday and are willing to help. I ended up ordering the proper M226 wheel speed sensor today now the waiting game begins all over again

well today I started working on a gas can holder for my roof rack since I got a pretty long trip towing my camper coming up and wanted a way to secure my jerry cans for the trip.

updated the first pic in the OP and also ordered a 27" traffic advisor that I am planning on installing in the rear cargo hooks. the original strobe lights that I had mounted to my roof basket are now dead. not sure what happened or what killed them but I had to seal everything with clear silicone to make them somewhat water tight when I first bought them. going to be ordering a couple other strobe light bars for the side windows and a couple LED lights for rear facing on my roof rack just need to find some cash first
