Anyone got experience with the Savage 11/111 platform? Looking for a cheaper rifle for deer hunting and possibly bigger. The "Hog Hunter" version in .308 seems like a nice choice with the addition of a scope. A used one (w/o scope) is at the local shop. Reviews seem to really like it...

Yup, I played with em. According to savage, it's geared toward hunting only, and inside 500m. Accuracy guarantee is also nonexistent per their gunsmiths.

Depending on the cost that you can afford, I'd recommend the Howa M1500 in the compact heavy varminter, or, a Remington 783.

700 is a great one...783 is a newer cheaper one, good quality, solid rifle for under $450 brand new

Unlike the 770 which was a piece of shizer
Sounds like I'll have to go to the local gun shops and see what they've got that I can actually put my hands on and see what feels best. I'll keep the 1500 and 783 in mind.

Thing is, that 1500 will probably run you almost twice what the 783 does, but, it's a 20" heavy barrel vs the 783's normal/light profile barrel, and, I know MY 1500 has grouped sub-MOA out to 1000m...they may not all be that good, but, everyone I know with one is shooting at worst 1MOA, many are .5MOA at 200-300m

I would jump on the hog hunter. I've seen a couple threads on snipershide of guys that bought them and have had great results (MOA or better with match ammo). I have a savage 10-TR that shoots 1/3 MOA with hand loads. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to pick up another savage.

See, that's what everyone I've known that has a savage says, the people who don't talk smack on em half the time, so, exactly like my para 1911, but, when a gunsmith at the company is the one telling me that it's designed to be a short to mid range gun, and that they have zero accuracy guarantee, that broke me. If I got the one screwy one that was crap for accuracy, they don't care. Many others guarantee 3MOA, 1.5MOA, or 1MOA...but, to have no accuracy guarantee scared me off.

what models are those ron?

Which? The top is a savage hoghunter (so, he can lend first hand input on the above discussion), second....my guess is ruger, third, glocks it appears, I'd guess the compact 9mm model, whatever number that is...

How did I do for guessing?

You're right. The Glocks are either the 26 (9mm) or 27 (40).

Top is the savage hog hunter in .308, redfield revolution 4x12x40, Leupold rings/bases, butler lens covers, badass cheek rest/pouch, unknown brand bipod, bolt conditioned.

Mid is a ruger 10/22 composite, no laser, cheap BSA glass

Bottoms are Glock 19's

Hmm... I just read the debate on the hog hunter. My opinion is that i have no regrets and always recommend it. I originally saw it at the local gun store and loved the look/feel/build. I put my hands on the 700's and 783's and they just didn't feel quite right, the bolt especially.

As far as accuracy, sub MOA with match grade. Use for my rifle was originally a paper pusher, but I will be hunting hog beginning next year. I haven't even utilized the threaded barrel end yet. Best bang for buck in my opinion.

Yeah we went with 19s because they felt right in our hands and work well as range pistols too.

Speaking of... None of my firearms have spit fire since the surge in ammo prices... I really need to get back out on the range and check my zeros.
