I've only been able to go climbing once but have hopes to go again sometime.

My friend has all of the gear and took me out with him to the Wichita Mountains at Quartz Mountain outside of Altus, OK. After a short hike we reached a nice climb. We had to do a little bouldering to get to where we needed to be and after that I was instructed on how to belay correctly and safely. My buddy did a free climb on his own to set up the run and afterwards I followed him up!

It was definitely exhilarating! When I reached the top I couldn't help but just yell out! I'm not really the yell at the top of your lungs type so this was a big deal for me.

I had a hat on but lost it at one point and had to go back down into a thicket to get it so this is one of my only hatless moments. This run was called windy point or windy face or something like that so I should have known.

I added the photos. I'd probably have already gone again but the temps here were 100+ most of the summer and it's difficult to get a good hold on a hot rock from what I hear.

Looks like great fun. I've messed around a very little bit when out hiking but my 335 pounds is a bit rough on the fingertips.

I was sooooo sore the day after I climbed. And X1000 on having a good lead guy. I wouldn't have even begun to climb had it not been for having a great teacher. And believe it or not, the lady that taught him is like 65! And she still gets out there like every weekend!

He wants to go again this spring. If we get a weekend organized I'll let you know and hopefully it will be early enough. I'm really thinking my wife is going to be hard as hell to convince to let me climb now that we're having a baby. We'll see though.

you want my help? it's easy....just tell her that you're making sure you have a few extra safety people on hand and they're going to ensure that you don't get hurt.

remember, I have a 10 month old now, and she goes wheeling with me more than the wife does (and probably enjoys it more too), so, the presence of a baby doesn't mean you have to stop doing risky things, it just means you have to be extra safe while doing it.

I **REALLY** wanna find someplace to get some good commando style rappelling in...(and no, I don't mean commando as in no underwear, I mean head first, no hands)

That'd be something you'd have to visit with him about. He's got an account on here but he doesn't remember to sign on. Between Quartz Mountain and the wildlife refuge there is plenty of climbing around here. He's got a nice little book that shows all of the climbs and their difficulties.

I use to go indoor 3-4 times a week! Then I broke it off with the GF/Climbing partner. Havn't really been in years.

Favorite feeling was when you couldn't lift the car door handle, you worked hard. The amount of taped blisters was always fun, and launching your self from one hold to another was amazing!

Anyone in the RI area!!!

yeah, I'm not that good....250lbs doesn't rock climb all that nimbly ;) it climbs still though. I'm actually wanting to get a couple of the hanging boards and attach em out in the garage and try to get my upper body built up to where it needs to be.

I have shoes that work fine, and army issue rope, it's not the fancy sleeved stuff he has, but it works quite nicely.

that reminds me, I think I need to get a new set of my good toe shoes....

I didn't get to actually climb today but happened to be out taking pictures at a good climbing spot with my wife when my buddy showed up to climb with a couple of his friends. So I figure, everybody likes a few good pics.

That air is BA!
Update: I started climbing again!! Found someone that is willing to learn. Got him to sign up for a belay class so he can hold my ass to the wall and not drop me.

Again is anyone is in north RI or south Mass, hit me up.
