Hey there, I am a surfer and have been for the past 14 years.

I live in TX* where most of the time I have to ride my 9'-6" board. I also have a 6'-6" & a 6'-5" fish/hybrid short boards. Looking to sell one of the short boards.

I personally have surfed most of the TX coast and the following...

California: La Jolla, Point Loma, OB, & PB

Hawaii:Hawaii, Oʻahu & Kauaʻi

&

Fanning Island/Tabuaeran which is part of the Kiribati Island chain located, for you map geeks, 3°51′36″N 159°21′52″W just below the equator.

How do you guys strap your boards to the rack? Do you use straps, buggies, rope, Strap Thang by Yakima, etc., etc....?

Do you have piX of your X sporting a surfboard?

I'll have to take pix of my boards and post them.

whatever you use strap them the proper way. Skegs up and pointed forward. As so:

You can spot a kook a mile away with a board strapped like that.

Reasons? Deck up the sun will quickly melt off all of your hard earned wax. Skegs first? If perchance you forgot to strap down your board there's a chance to skegs will catch on something on the way out the back. Yeah a slim chance but that's how its always been done.

HEY Not saying that you do that RF, just saying as s general rule :)

I'm always more afraid of a load up top coming off in a forward direction in the event of hitting the brakes too hard or, gobble forbid, running into something. Our trucks don't accelerate as hard as they can decelerate. Still, skeg up, wax down in any case.

Dude, how'd you find yourself on Fanning? More importantly, how was the surf?

Hopped a boat from Hawaii :) The surf was sick!!

Yeah man. I've seen a lot of kooks do the second. What f'n noobs. In my younger days, my friends and I would put a bar of wax on the cars windshield for being kooks... not so nice I know.

Naaahhh! I drive at highway speeds (70mph max) and go around in stop and go traffic and never had a board budge. You just need board pads and strap it right.

If the surf forecast looks right for LA, I'll bring my 9'6".

I wouldn't even bother, bro. Even with a 30 knot south wind there's no rideable surf here, and it's just too choppy. The beach comes up on such a shallow slope that the waves expend 80-90% of their energy before they come ashore and break.

This thread is so cool. I went to Cali one time in the 5th grade and my dad's cousin took me "surfing" one morning. I just body boarded on a boogie board but at the time it was cool as heck. Getting all wet suited up at sunrise at his duplex on the boardwalk of La Jolla. Good memories.

I'm not sure if he's still got the place at LaJolla but he got into a hand full of places in Hawaii. Needless to say I need to hit him up for a trip someday! My friends and I were going to go there and stay in one of his places for our senior trip but it was a little out of our budget, we ended up going camping and making a heck of a lot of memories there too. //end thread jack.

Joe, there is nothing like the stoke you get from surfing. It's not a sport or a hobby.

Riders - Sorry for the repeat post (I hit up the snowboard forum too) but I want to turn you all on to my brother in law's line of surf and skate clothes --> http://landandseeclothing.com
Mike designs and makes quality sh*t, and it's been pretty well received on various pro tours. He's been working his ass off to establish it. Least I can do is help! As you can see, even my X reps him!

but don't you live in like texas or some southern state were the waves well aren't as big as we get sometimes? i'm surprised you don't ride a longer board than the 6'5 that's a pretty decent size for not getting something to powerful. living in cali does have it's benefits :D

Were any of you apart of the Surfer Magazine message board? I used to be really into that community before I found Xterra communities. My name was SurWax and SurfWax2.

sticky bumps for the smaller boards i feel it grips a little more, sex wax for the cruisers i use sex on anything bigger than 6'5 and smaller like my skim board i use sticky bumps. So i don't know if you like the smell of them but Mr. Zoggs started making candles, one of my girls brought it over tonight, it smells awesome!

Yeah, the last time I was at the surf shop, they had the candles. Meant to get a couple.

I've made my own wax using coconut oil and beeswax. Got the recipe from Surfer message board user from NZ.
