I wired in my CB antenna through the rubber tail light grommet, as seen in your build thread. Not sure if it was your idea or not, but thanks for the inspiration. It worked out well.

Yeah, that's the easiest way I could think of. Glad it worked for you.

I've been a busy beaver this evening. I had to special order a 22mm drill bit from amazon so I could open up one of those useless holes in the center stack for the switch for my grill lights. That drill bit came in today. The results are what follows:

I'm thrilled with the way the switch came out. Looks almost factory. Now I need to order another switch for the middle hole.

/heh.....middle hole. .....

Also, put a new coat of paint on the roof of the truck. I found a rattle can that is a spot on match and I had some scratches and rust spots up there. So I roughed up the whole back section of the roof and resprayed it. I'll take some pictures tomorrow. It came out almost perfect. One more coat tomorrow and some clear and wax, it'll be golden. Well.....blue.....

Paint paint and more paint.

Blacked out the front badge.

Had some flaking paint on the tail gate

And the dent I picked up at nXm2. Not concerned about the dent itself, concerned about the rust.

Also changed out the silver Xterra badge on the back for a black SE one that I picked up on eBay for $12. And remounted the painted roof rack rails.

As far as how the painting came out......it's not perfect. If I paid a pro to do it and it came out like that, I'd tell them to get bent. But. The weather wasn't ideal, I didn't have any sun to help it dry and I had to rush it because it was about to rain. Those things considered, I think it came out pretty good.

My vision to rid the truck of all silver accents is almost complete. Except the grill.......

Looks good man! I hate to say it, but that's where I had planned to put my light switches, too...can I borrow your 22mm bit? :fufu

What switches are you planning on? The one I used for the LEDs is a Savage switch. Two things....they're not cheap & they're only available in the UK.

The website that I ordered from.

I had it in about a week. Fit and finish is perfect. Great switch despite the cost. I will do another one for the middle hole. Just not sure what I want to control yet.

The 22mm bit from Amazon was like $11. No biggie.

I actually had a couple rocker switches lying around:

Going to do the center button for the two driving lights, and then the right button for the fogs.

Even though they are mounted w/ 10.8 bolts, I think I'm going to go back and have them welded in anyway.

Because im lazy, what size tire did you go with and how many miles do you have on them now and how do you like them?

Im thinking about going with those myself now.

33x12.5x15 Goodyear DuraTrac tires. They've been fantastic. Great road manners, well above average off road performance, they balance well, and don't make that much noise. They're not a mud tire. That much is for sure. The sidewalls are soft, and while there is a decent tread gap, it's not as large as a true MT.

I got them right before nXm last year and they only have about 10k miles on them, but they still look brand new as far as I can tell.

All of the state trooper 4wd's around Taos/angelfire New Mexico run duratracs, so, their snow performance must be decent too...

I still have two more lights to mount. But I ran short on bolts. And daylight. One they're wired up, I won't have that daylight problem anymore. Heh.

The bracket between the reverse lights is reserved for my Frankenstein 3rd brake light which is still in progress. More on that later.

I finished the external wiring 100%. Dropped everything into the rear drivers side quarter panel. Overall, I think it looks awesome. Now comes the fun part, the internal wiring. But that's another project for another weekend.

As you can see up in the front I stubbed out a 2-wire connector for the light bar. That'll make it easier if I ever have to remove it. Two bolts and a plug.

One thing is for sure, I'm glad I had the Gobi on before I started this. Made it worlds easier to get up there and work on the wiring.

And My helpers....or annoyers...depending on how you look at it.

Man, looks great! I thought about picking up one of those ladders this weekend... Maybe next weekend or something. I'm debating on how to hook up the front lights I have coming in soon, I may have to try out these disconnects. Are they pretty water tight?

They're rated for trailer connections. So they have to be sort of water resistant. The way they're designed I can't see how water would get in.

At least it's DepHep approved. Heh. That's what I was going for. Srsly though. Much respect the rack. It's a beast. Now I'm gonna take some measurements and get you to make me a front rack extension. Heh

Ha yea that's sweet, we could have just made it like 60" long but you would had to come get it.

I finished all of my light wiring and fuse panel in the back of the truck today. Once my new center stack bezel comes in ill be able do the switch wiring and reassemble the dash.
upuby2a4.jpg

Are the 30A relays overkill for the LEDs? Absolutely. However, my switches don't support enough amperage to wire straight through them. You can't see it w/ the cover on, but the roof and side relays are only fed by a 10A fuse. The circuit for the grill lights and reverse lights are on a 15A.

I was thinking about using that spot for SOMETHING last night, but I couldn't figure out what to do with it...now I know. Would there be any loss in the 15' from the battery to the rear of the cab, or not enough to speak of?

If you look to the right hand side of the picture, you'll see a red 4ga wire. That is the direct run from the battery. It's on a 100A fuse. As long as you use a heavy enough wire, it's just another circuit.

The silver wire is the hot for my audio amp. Which is direct fed from the battery. So my fuse panel is I line w/ that. No kind of appreciable voltage drop. Of course, I am scouting for a Quest alternator.
