The X is going to Louisville on the 23rd of March for the new bumper, i'll take some pics when I pick it up. I'll be headed down to Flordia so I won't be able to pick it up from RLC until the 9th of April.

Super awesome. I've been wanting to get mine up there, but it just hasn't worked out to figure out the time. Does this mean he'll have template info, and we can just order up a 2nd gen rear once yours is done? :) We will need extensive pics, of course.... :p

m That would be swell! I keep pondering what route to go w/ replacing the rear. Dropping into the mud pits at Durhamtown the other weekend reminded me a ton how much I need to raise the current hitch / light plug setup... :-\

I was surprised your hitch plug hung in there. I was waiting for it to fall off.

You have to hand it to master fabricators to come up with something like this. Not to say the ARB isn't sexy in it's own right, but there is a bunch of noodle rubbin' involved here. Great work by RLC!!

I wonder if there will be an incorporated rad skid for this?

Here it is painted and mounted on the X, i may be taking it back for a skid plate but james made me some brackets so the stock skid would fit.

What about a tube option; is he going to run it from one side to the other? Seems like he'd need to put a slight bend in the middle of the upper part of the tube, or have the top forward a bit. I think he should just do a normal middle plate, with a flat surface under the stock grill (like the 1st Gen model).

Thanks for the replies.

I'll tell you some of my jumbled thinking in regards to the design and will be happy to hear any objections or "but..." or "it would be better if..." :) :) I make changes for people all the time and we may find a better way.

This one had a body lift, which added to my problems. Non body lift versions MAY have to go forward an inch or two but would be shorter overall in the winch area

There is a body mounted sheet metal structure? just under the grill I left on. If I went lower with the bumper panel that would be showing. That structure also precludes a flat top panel in that area (IMO). I could make one, but it would have to be curved to look good and that's another 30+ inches of welding and grinding on the edge. (more complex = more$$$)

Now the grill is close but the edge sort of disappears because they're not made to come together.

I can tilt that panel forward to clear the later grills (I guess, as I haven't seen a later grill). Or make it shorter.

I liked the tilted back panelbecause it accented the "points" on the side panels, which I liked as very aggressive looking and allowed some headlight protection and space for future hoop(s) .

There is a punched flange along the bottom of the bumpers lower edge for a future skid.

I may have to come up with separate mounts for adjustment.

I like my first gen bumper but decided this needed to be different for several reasons.
