Wind deflector/wet box = debris trap!

ANDE2017

Test Drive
Ive owned my 2nd gen 2015 Pro-4X for almost a year now and have removed the wet box, and front wind deflector once already right after I purchased the truck to clean and wax the roof area that’s hidden under the deflector and wet box.
After only two years on the road there was a lot of leaves and debris caught under that deflector that I had to remove.
This doesn’t settle well with me as I know it can’t be good for the paint, and because I really like this Xterra and plan to keep it like new for many years I’m now wracking my brain trying to come up with / engineer some sort of a soft barrier I can install to close off that gap and prevent any flying debris like leaves, twigs, grass clippings, dust and dirt from finding its way under there in the future.
Has anyone here dealt with this issue on their own yet?
For the time being, I’ve been tucking an old motorcycle cover into that gap while the truck is parked just to prevent anything from finding its way under there, and I avoid parking anywhere near any trees.
I’m thinking about picking up some foam rubber household copper pipe insulation, and tuck a length of that into the gap, but really don’t want to use anything that could hurt the paint, say if it were to get wet by rain, etc.
Does this problem bother anyone else here enough to find a solution?
If so, I’m all ears...

Thanks,
Ken A

It absolutely is an issue. But not one that bothers me enough to do something about. I don't see how some foam pipe insulation could hurt anything
