When I still owned the Xterra I ran full synthetic and it seemed to work real well.

full synthetic in everything I own, but I am not as brand specific in the x as I am in my infiniti and acura.
I have lucas synthetic gear oil in the diffs, valvoline in the transfer case and tranny, and I have used mobile 1, castrol, and rotella T synthetics in the engine. I usually go with castrol european formula, but will get mobile 1 if its on a good sale, and rotella if I am short on cash but need an oil change. pretty much always run purolator filters in all my vehicles.

Mobil 1 full synthetic all around except for the transmission and transfer case, I run OEM Nissan fluids in those, which are synthetic as well I believe.
