I'm not going to just make a huge list but rather post up as they come to me.

Teddy Geiger in high school. Nickelback: Photograph-high school senior song.

And that dang party rock song that seems to be on the radio every morning lately. It does start my day pretty well though.

I grew up in central California, music that influenced me was rap and rock. Marshal Mathers, Brotha Lynch Hung, Pastor Troy, Andre Nickitina, Tech N9ne, Haystak, Mac Dre and D12 is mainly what I was jammin on my walkman tape deck as far as rap goes. I have always like rock also, pretty much any AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Rolling Stones, Credence Clearwater Revival, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Days of the New and pretty much anything that had some good guitar riffs and a good melody. As a kid I used music as an outlet very frequently, I remember days where I would go through 6-10 AA's in my walkman or wedge my bedroom door closed and crank up my pieced-together home radio. I didn't really have parental support growing up, when life was s**t I would isolate myself and listen to music. I don't think I would be who I am today without having music as an outlet, a way to vent.

I bought my first car at 18, it was a 1981 Buick regal. The car had been sitting on a farm for 5 years with a blown transmission when I bought it for $100, it was sitting so long that the ground was litterally growing up around it (the dirt was almost up to the lug nuts and the car had to be lifted up then pulled out). I had a complete sound system ready to install before I got the car and had it installed the day after the car was towed to my house. The following weekend I bought a used tranny and slapped it in. I have had a custom audio system in everything I have owned that made sound. My Xterras audio system was upgraded from stock not even 48 hours after I got it. I have a full 5.1 Polk audio home theater system with 2 subwoofers. Even my home PC has a studio setup. Just goes to show how much music has influenced me since childhood.

I have a odd musical back ground.. I can enjoy almost every thing.. In 1982 my grandfather gave me his old clock radio.. I remember setting it up and the Eurythmics came on.. "Sweet dreams are made of these" This blew my mind.. The heavy use of keyboards and the pattens were crazy.. before that I dont remember too much music.. I listened to lots of 50s and 60s music.. My Dad had a huge record collection from that period. But it wasnt till 1986 or so that music started moving me.. Like many kids from the 80s Hair metal was big to me.. Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Scorpions, and so on were some of the artist I would listen to.. My sister was 7 years older than me, She who go to all of these shows and tell me how these bands rocked. My first cassettes were ZZ Top and Huey Lewis and the news.. Yeah Im all over the place musically.. In 1989 I went to my first rock show.. Bon Jovi.. Skid Row opened the show.. I couldnt believe the energy these bands put out. At that point I knew I wanted to be a musician. At the same time I was digging these bands.. Metallica came into my life..

6 to 9 minute songs.. Loud guitars and heavy drums!!! This became the 2nd show I seen.. 1989 7 row seats... The Cult opened up.. One of my other favorite bands of the time. So I begged and begged for a drum kit that year for Christmas.. My Dad was totally against me becoming a musician.. He knew all the crazy time she had.. and for better or worse did not want me to head down that path.. So I kept jamming to these kill bands..

Thinking back now 1989 was major point in my life.. My sister like me lived for music. She would attend almost every show that came through Murfreesboro.. Through all this she made some killer connections.. One such connection started sending us all this odd sounding music.. We would get these cool tapes of bands like Soundgarden, and Nirvana.. This cat was telling us about these bands and how Seattle was about to blow up.. At the same time all of this was going on I came to hear Stevie Ray Vaughn. 1990 and MTV started this show called MTV Unplugged. This cat blew me away.. It was just SRV and his 12 string acoustic making all this soulful music. If the musician bug dug in hard now.. I had to play after seeing this guy. Then it was all over, Aug 26 1990 Im just growing to love the blues and my hero SRV was killed in a helicopter crash...

To be continued....

There are many, but if I had to pick a few then Led Zep would def be number 1. Tool is a close second, The Who, CCR and Deftones are up there too.

Rage Against the Machine/ Red Hot Chilli Peppers/ and Green Day were the bands that influenced me in Middle school. Which is what lead me start playing the drums and once i picked that up i expanded my music genre with modern day Jazz, Techno, Dubstep, Trance, Lounge.......yes i know that all over the spectrum of music genre. I do listen to Hip Hop very little rap and a whole lot of alternative rock!!

I grew up listening to classic rock anytime I was with my dad (which was most of the time- definitely a daddy's girl for sure). To this day, my favorite bands are Boston and Rush.

I started "hanging out" more with my mom when Daddy got promoted and went to nights. She would listen to oldies and country, and I learned to sing from Aretha Franklin and Garth Brooks.

If you were to look at my station presets in my truck, you would find a country station (this is Nashville, home of country music), another country station, an alternative/rock station, another country station, classic rock station, and Top 40. I like the newer rock, but only some of it.

As a musician, my biggest influence has been Tommy Emmanuel. Holy crap, the things that man can do with a guitar. Daddy plays the banjo, so I'm a big fan of finger-picking a guitar to match the rolls and chords of a banjo. My mother plays piano and insisted that I learn how- I play by ear. Couldn't read music to save my life.

Vocally, I'm a weird mix of Shelly Fairchild (look her up), Shania Twain, and Gretchen Wilson. I have a southern accent like no other and it shows.

I dunno...my brain's music storage is very wide-ranged. Just depends on my mood.

First, I like to commend Nismo for not writing a wall of text :)... David :p

Let's see...

As a kid my parents introduced me to a wide range of music such as jazz, classic rock, blues, traditional Bavarian music, celtic, classical music, and 50's/60's rock'n'roll. Growing up I appreciated everything from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach to Credence Clear Water Revival.

I really didn't like radio as a kid because they only played the popular songs and not the other tracks found on records my parents had. Because of this I stuck to records, cassettes, and CDs and became increasingly interested in what artists had and who influenced them.

Around the age of 15 I was introduced to punk music when my cousin came over to my parents house, in his black leather jacket, and gave me a few cassettes to listen to... RAMONES, Stiff Little Fingers, & Minor Threat... there music hit me like a freight train and I was hooked on punk music. Watched documentaries on punk I got from the local library and went with my cousin to punk shows as an "of age" kid. Everything snowballed from there.

At 16 years old I mowed enough lawns to buy my first electric bass and began to learn the blues, rock'n'roll, and punk tunes I loved. Joined three bands that never left the garage lol

Fast forward to now and I can't find bands I like in your everyday music store lol I love a variety of music... punk, irish punk, rockabilly, ska, opera, classical, rock, metal, blues, classic rock, trance, hip-hop, dubstep, bluegrass, celtic... list goes on.

I enjoy a wide range of genres as well. I'll just say I like a little of everything. I can't say that music has impacted me as much as some of you guys and I'm not going to pretend like it did. But I will say that I love music.

I dig a good CCR track, be it Credence Clearwater Revival or Cross Canadian Ragweed.

My "teens" consisted of literally everything besides country and rap...sorry. I go through different moods of what I like to listen to pretty much on a daily basis but one thing I can always rely on is the old hard rock bands with 5 minute shredding solos....METALLICA, KISS, GUNS N ROSES to name a few.

John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Eminem, Creed, Nickelback, and Garth Brooks to name off another few.

John Mayer and Jack Johnson inspired me to take up guitar, which I struggle with.

I always enjoyed Scott Stapp's vocals with Creed and yes I enjoyed both their music and Nickelback's.

My cousin introduced me to Eminem in his Tahoe with a sound system that required rolling down the windows to relieve pressure, he claimed. It was the first taste of decent bass and dirty lyrics.

Garth Brooks takes me back to belting "Rodeo" with my cousin in my dad's truck on the farm and singing every word of "Papa Loved Mama" without knowing exactly what that song was about. Same thing with Rodeo actually. Kinda like re-watching Disney movies or Looney Tunes to find out the innuendos included.

Simple plan, thursday, thrice, taking back sunday, new found glory, BLINK, story of the year (tell me their first name and you get a cookie, and no wiki!), linkin park, limbisket, yeah back in the day! That was back end of middle school solid high school.
My music ranges from almost everything.

Changes along thenyear. Right now falling off a dubstep stage (going mainstream), last one was a solid country phase, moving towards a country and underground rap mix.

I always had my father playing guitar as a kid so stuff like jimmy buffett and brown eye girl was huge growing up.

Music has been huge in my life since the beginning. I grew up listening to old vinyl with my parents. At least once a week we would have record night, we'd sit around the turn table and take turns playing stuff. It was mostly classic country, honky tonk, rockabilly, etc. My dad played every instrument, but mainly guitar. He bought me a guitar when I was very young and I started playing. I've played off and on my whole life. I've been without a guitar a few times in my life due to foolishness or hard times, my dad would always show up with a guitar for me and tell me to take it until I could get my own again. He would never give me money, but always a guitar.

I started listening to punk rock when I was about 15. I saw "Another State of Mind", a documentary about Social Distortion and Minor Threat. That turned me on to that whole scene and I've been into it ever since. Social Distortion is still my favorite band, The Clash is a close second.

After years of playing punk covers, I write my own music now. It's all acoustic these days, heavily influenced by 50s country, mixed up with punk rock. Here's my current guitar, it's a keeper and it will go to my son someday...

When I was growing up, my mom mostly listened to country or oldies, which means I mostly listened to country or oldies. To this day, I still hate country music. But thanks to my mom, I developed an appreciation for Motown and soul, and I'm also a huge fan of 60's surf rock, like Dick Dale, the Ventures, The Chantays, etc. and also the Beatles. Funny thing is, I didn't really like the Beatles when I was a kid. I don't think I really got them until after high school.

High school was in the 90's, so naturally, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Tool, Social Distortion, Bad Religion...these were all huge influences for me. They are still my favorite bands, and likely always will be. It was also during the 90's, thanks to our local rock station in New Orleans that I started listening to classic rock. I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd, the Stones, and Zeppelin, and I dig a lot of other classic rock.

In the late 90's/early 2000's (college years) I got into really hard rock and metal. I suppose it was a natural transition. I was listening to Metallica through out the 90's, and I liked some of the older metal bands like Sabbath, but I'd never delved into the genre before. This was when I began listening to Anthrax and Megadeth, Rammstein, Sevendust. I still dig stuff like that, but one too many concerts has left me with a bit of hearing loss, so I wouldn't say I'm into as much as I was then.

Lately, as in the past couple of years, in a desire to listen to something new (to me at least; a lot of new rock bands suck nuts, and most of them all sound the same thanks to Nickelback) I started getting into punk. A lot of that had to do with XM radio. The Fungus channel introduced me to a lot of music I never heard before, and it's pretty much what I listen to now on Faction. That, and Lithium, which is all that great grunge rock from the 90's.

And interestingly enough, I like a lot of newer alternative bands, Muse, and Modest Mouse, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, Riverboat Gamblers, Awolnation.

But, after all that, if I had to name one band that I identify with the most, I'd say Tool. I absolutely love Maynard's music.

My first album "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin--it had the zeppelin burning on the cover. From there went to The Who, Stones, The Doors, and some 60's stuff.

1977 saw my taste move to Elvis Costello, Sex Pistols, The Clash and then full blown in 1979-81 into New Wave, Alternative and punk. By the time I was out of college though I mellowed a bit. Loved The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen and many others.

So much I see today is just rehashed, corporate repacking of stuff that was only really new in 1978 or 1983 etc etc

By the way, can someone please explain to me why morning or evening rock radio station playlists havent changed in 20 years? Well at least we no longer get trapped in that Sunday morning Phill Collins over play, hell anymore :D

Tom Petty's the one that got me going. In my HS/College years I morphed into an appreciation of EDM and Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Crystal Method are on constant rotation on my iPod.
