Hello XN, new X owner in Northern VA. Just figuring out how to work in the forum, will hopefully get some profile updates with a photo shortly.

Got myself a 2001 Xterra SE manual back in Feb. Came with a PML, MB 16" wheels, and 265/75/16 BFG TA KO2's. Got plans for more mods, but it came with a bit more needs mechanically than I originally thought (took a chance on a rebuilt title). Just finished with a new rear main seal, and clutch, plus couple other minor items when it was apart. Found out my AC compressor is dead and I need to replace the front cats. Probably just going to do all the cats and add a Gibson exhaust.

Last item before the mods start is some torch and weld. Thought I had an alignment problem when I bought it, found out the left front wheel mount was welded a bit off when this thing was repaired from whatever accident it was in. Looks to be an easy torch, adjust, and re-weld, but need to find a shop that can handle it. Drives fine for the moment, just got a hell of a left hand pull that would make any NASCAR a hands free option.

Anyway, enough of my gripes. Glad to be here and will be working to get off-road ready.

Welcome! We have a lot of VA guys (myself included). Advice on the exhaust front, don't waste the money on cats. Get the Doug Thorley long tube headers.

Let us know if you need anything.

Thanks Prime. Are there any emissions issues with the headers? Don't I need the cats for the O2 sensors?

You can do check engine eliminators. They fool the computer into thinking that the emissions are correct. As far as emissions, if you replace your secondary cats with new ones at the same time, you should be able to pass a sniffer with no issue. Fed law requires that you simply have catalytic converters. If you do more efficient hi-flows they'll usually out perform the OE ones as far as the testing is concerned.

Ok, NuB here. First post. Just looking around for now. Just picked up a 2001 for a song & a dance. Had it towed (engine won't rev over 1800 and previous owner says trans is bad). I'll get my guys to diag it & see what goes. I'll update as I go along. My plans are making it into a "Doomsday Ark"...LOL. Seriously, It's a project that I'm starting and my 8yo can get his hands dirty with me. Pics to come. Thinking about doing the whole body with Line-X paint...any thoughts on that?

Hello all, joining in the fun with a 2002 maroon Xterra. Bought this diamond in the rough from a neighbor for $1500, and well...she needs work. Has a power steering leak somewhere along the lines, needs 3 new tires, and the front driver side is lower than the front passenger side. This is going to be a long process as my plan for this is to be a "bug out" vehicle, that will double as a tow vehicle for camper in the future, and the vehicle the dogs get driven around in!

The nice part is this isn't my first Nissan vehicle. I had a 2002 Frontier 4cyl 5 speed about 3 years ago, and traded that in for a newer Impala SS. Sold that when that started having problems just after a year, and regret selling my baby truck. So my X has 164k, and I traded my Frontier in with 175K, so I know I have many more miles to put on this girl! I am excited to be apart of another great forum, and hope to see some of y'all on the streets of Houston (located NE of Houston TX)!

Welcome to XN! We have a few regulars in TX. Sounds like a fun truck project. Do you know if the timing belt has been done yet?

Hi From Ontario Canada

I just got my first X its a 2004. I got it with a cracked transmission housing(manual), and the one I had a line on at the autowreckers turned out to be broken in the same place. Hopefully I can find one.

Once I get the Trans in I have some big plans
gonna change out the rims and tires, I'm thinking around 32" Any suggestions on rim back spacing?
I haven't decided on Body or Suspension lift get but I'm still fighting with trying to get the torsion bars out so I can drop the trans (what a pain) any tips there?
Then I figure I'll make some custom bumpers and of course add some lights
Any other good Mod you can suggest? or Ideas on where I can find a new manual Trans?

But bring your thick skin. Hahaha

I ran 32" tires on my wheels, with as close to factory BS as I can. Im sure someone smarter than me will chime in soon.
