Hello All,

I'll be taking my scout troop to URE on Saturday, December 13th. We will be departing from the Outpost by 9AM, as we have to leave by 130PM-2PM to get back for a church thing that evening. We will be running Rocky Mount Loop > Saw Mill > Wolf Den > Dutch John then stopping for lunch before we finish up on Dickey Bell OR the back side of Daniel as there is a lot of fun playgrounds....I MAY take them up the front side of Daniel as the trail is pretty short depends on how they respond to the other trails. Please let me know if you can or want to join in. It will be a LOT of fun. I already have 1 other vehicle riding with me (2010 Jeep Liberty) who has already gone up and down all the trails (including the middle of Daniel), but I would definitely like to have another rig or two.

I might be able to pull it off, but it would be last minute decision depending on my wifes schedule. Are you looking to put kids in the other rigs or would we just be tagging along.

.

It will probably just be tagging along. I think we are covered with our kids; we'll put 3 in my vehicle and a buddy's vehicle, then 2 adults.

How much stopping do you plan on doing for scouting stuff? Not exactly sure how scouting works, but are you going to have to stop for 30 minutes here and there to build a fire or tie some knots or something?

Lastly, I guess the question good to answer for clarification...is are the kids parents OK with inviting non-church/scout members along for the ride? Even if we aren't "participating" in scouting activities or having kids in our cars, etc. I mean, it is a public park so if I pay the 5 bucks for the pass, I obviously have a right to be there...but would hate for an otherwise awesome trail ride to cause trouble back home if some of the kids talk to their parents about your other internet friends that followed you everywhere, etc...

Really, I'd say the 2nd question is more of a deciding factor for me. I don't have a problem with kids or anything, but would not want to be in a situation where I am a stranger hanging around a scout troop that the kids/parents weren't expecting.

These are good questions, truly.

First question - We will probably stop intermittently throughout the ride. Our primary objective is to locate evidence of 10 wild animals (scat, broken branches, actually seeing the animals, etc). I figured I will need to spot whoever goes with, so that will be the time that they get out and look to fulfill this requirement.

Second Question - The parents are aware of non-church members attending, but I would ask that you refrain from smoking, and absolutely NO drinking, on the trails, or at least run tail gunner if you want to smoke. Other than that, just keep the language clean, which I think is pretty easy for folks :).

Talked to the wife about this and she is off that weekend, so that improves my chances of going from 0% to about 40%. If I do come I will probably bring my 4 year old with me. He was really sad at the noas run because he thought he was going camping with me, but it was too many days and too cold for his first trip.

You should have brought him! Tons of kids and yes, it was cold, but he would have had a blast with all the other kids!

Hopefully we'll see you next weekend.

Looks like I have 2 trucks going from Raleigh. Anyone looking to meet us up there? I have 2 more adults that would like to join us, but we have absolutely NO room left in the 2 rigs going. They are willing to drive up and side seat with someone on this trip.
