I can't believe I haven't posted these here.

A little over a year ago I embarked on a quest to build a second-gen Xterra in Lego minifigure scale. Having no Lego to work with (I donated the majority of my collection, but for a few nostagic pieces), I designed it from scratch using the Lego Digital Designer:

Then I started to refine the design:

And I tried a few other things:

And then the game changed when Lego released this set...

Got myself one of those "Dirt Bike Transporter" sets (which are still available) and modified it into my first Lego X:

Followed by more refinement:

And as with any other Xterra, it just doesn't look right without a lift and bigger tires.

Oh, and some articulation too.

And of course, I needed to make more.

And make one of my own X as well.

Which brings me to my latest project...the X3 concept!

Taking inspiration from a variety of other designs like the Benz Ener-G-Force and the SHIELD truck from the Lego Avengers line, I created my own concept vehicle based on the X.

This time, both axles articulate.

And it converts to a pickup!

It can haul.

In either direction!

Additionally, I'm looking to assemble a few of these little guys one day, and maybe sell them:

Those are amazing.....would be awesome if they would sell the pieces in a pack if you make one with that thing since you know what it takes.....

I dunno if they still do, but you can sell your designs online including kits to make these possible.

Sadly, no longer. The same day I finished the first render of the Xterra was the day they cancelled the program. However, there is an addicting-as-hell Lego aftermarket where you can buy individual components, and programs to generate part lists and instructions.

Thought I was done? Nope! STEERING!

On the Super Xterra, retaining the solid axle articulation! See below.

On the regular Xterra, which is based on the Great Vehicle build style, there's much less room to move and the effect is very subtle.

The joints have enough friction to stay wherever they're set.

Again, subtle effect with a semi-standard City build due to lack of clearance, but it can steer!

Utilizing the other axis, the Mixel joints coupled with the solid axle in the rear give a pretty convincing impression of independent suspension.

The steering effect really shines when your vehicle is lifted to the heavens:

Somebody needs an alignment!

Oh dear. (another very convincing independent suspension effect :p)

And coupled with some extra articulation...

Enjoy.

Those are amazing! While looking through your thread, the only thing I kept thinking about is how I can't wait for someone to get a 3D printer and actually print out a miniature X... Probably a decent enough market across the various forums to make it worth while too. The school I work for is thinking about getting one towards the end of the year, but admittedly I am no expert in programming or graphic design.
