I see where adding the on off on rocker goes if I can solder individual grounds back onto the original hatch switch light can I eliminate that rocker?

It's not that I don't appreciate the insight and efforts you all are making, I do more than you know. I'm learning more and more with each moment of clarity but I have it in my head that I can do this somehow without adding another switch. If it's not possible then the above diagram will be the way I go with and I'll try to put the switch high enough that it shouldn't get bumped on .

I'm going with the muadeeb plan[emoji106]
All the wire is in I'm trying to figure out how to get my switch hole in the right spot to correspond with an owning in the sheet metal sub panel. The only switch they had at edits shack is sort of deep. That plus the wires would def hit probably ground out over time. There is a n obvious ground right there though so a least that part will be easy[emoji16][emoji106]

So I dont have to read back through.....it looks like somebody said you cant get it to mimic the dome....LIES I SAY. I have mine acting just the dome. If I missed where somebody said you can just let me know....other wise I can go take a pic and post up for how to do it.

Turns out i already have pics on the bucket of photos

Here you can see where the positive connects

And here is the negitive

IMAG0548_zps5236e606.jpg

The big square piece with holes is the negitive part so be sure you dont let the positive wire touch it when you plug it back in.

This wires your new lights in parallel with the existing dome light so it acts the same way depending on the dome switch. Always on/always off/doors.

guy said I needed to buy a special crimper. HA!

It would have been so much easier but cheap and dumb go well together if you have time so tiny pliers and needle nose were used

I feel good, got a lot of help, will need some more as the project goes but it's a confidence booster. Thank you guys so much for dumbing this **** down for me. Next project is building my relay board for my left right and rear floods. The rears are going to be weird because I have led cubes for the rear cheeks. I call the corners cheeks for some reason, anyways... I want the rear lights to come on with the selection of reverse just like OEM and also when commanded and also an off or defeat to I don't go around melting faces in parking lots.

The wire is ridiculously thin,to get a strong crimp I twisted and folded in half twice to get the red butt connectors (24-20g?) to hang on to them. Used a channel lock brand crimper if that makes a difference to anyone.

Any time. I've done a write up on adding a switch like that, it should be in the first Gen diy section somewhere.

Edit: Found it. http://xterranation.org/showthread.php?784-Reverse-Lamp-wiring

And read it! That set up has lamps on with reverse or on manually would using a double pole double throw also allow a defeat or "normal" operation? And do those wire colors and locations correspond to the second gen? I'm going to re read...

Use an ON-OFF-ON switch -- up would be auto, down manual, and middle is defeated. The write up is specific to a 2001 (as that's what I have), but it looks like there wasn't any major wiring changes between then and 2004. The location I picked on the fuse panel is for the reverse lights, so whether you had your lights in auto or manual mode, it would be on the same fuse as the factory lights. Now, saying that, if you have a manual VG33, the wire you'd be looking for is on the back of the panel. If you have to go that route, you can either find another 12v source, or you can send me a picture and I can tell you which wire to choose.

Bumping this up I'm getting a bit of time Friday and maybe sat. I have a want to do the fog light mod with the original switch and would like to hook up a 20" LED bar in the mouth. Going to review all the info on the mod. Also I'm going to start laying out the off-road light mod and adding hid bulbs. Bulbs are in. The flip flop circuit is a bit baffling...

The LED bar I would like to run off the fog switch or a dedicated which I'm going to try and mount on the drivers door. Ideally I have four self lit circular rocker switches I'd like to place in a diamond configuration above the door handle. I found some stinger install wire which is multi stranded. Should do the trick. I don't remember how the LED in the switch gets power it's been a while and they have been packed up. Should I focus on completing a secondary blue sea distribution block first and then start drilling holes? Where are you guys putting the extra block and relay farm?

Muadeeb I do have the manual transmission. The rear switch of the aforementioned diamond pattern of switches would be a manual on for rear scene lights. I'd like the upper bar and lower cheek lights to light up in reverse, when commanded and defeated. Your plan calls for a three way. I'll look for one that fits the plan
