My X has basically become my camping / survival / off-road buddy. Well, that and my dog.

In the X at ALL times:

D-rings & tow strap, shovel, gas can, and hiking stick on roof rack (soon to be changed to low-profile roof rack to hold spare tire and 4-gallon gas can), tire gauge, maps, phone chargers, multi-tool, duct tape, 4lb sledge, tent, sleeping bag, hoodie, pillow, thick paracord & thin paracord, tent stakes, knives, hatchet, 7 flashlights with extra batteries (that's right - seven), two walkie-talkies with extra batteries, extra phone batteries, hiking boots & socks, fire starters, bungee cords, hitch & ball, bug spray, zip ties, ratchet straps, jumper cables, granola bars, water, canned goods (chicken, fruit, and beans, along with food for my pup), monocular, more knives, aspirin, standard Xterra first-aid kit, road flares, small wire cutters, lockpicks, latex gloves, work gloves, ziploc bags, compass, 6-liter water jug with purification system, machete (Gerber Jr. Gator), tomahawk, bow & arrows, sabre saw, spork, water bottles, electrical tape, hand wipes, shop towels, camp stove, scent killer, fire extinguisher, wool blanket, survival guides & books, trail maps / topography information for the entire state, and tubs and bags for everything. Compression and mobility is the key. This doesn't include the bug-out bag from home that includes a set of clothes, 9mm Ruger with three mags, spare keys, first aid kit, flashlights, a book, a deck of cards, vitamins, dog food, matches, and running shoes. You never know. I'd rather be prepared than not.

Soon to be added: Hi-Lift, ladder, Mossberg 500, portable hammock & hammock slings.

If you think about it, the Xterra is sort of the jack-of-all-trades when it comes to stuff like camping, off-roading, overlanding, adventuring, and general survival. Maybe that's why I was so drawn to it.

I didn't even know this thread existed! I'm glad I stumbled upon it :)

I was reading your list going yup yup yup, Then I started with the no's hmm I got some work to get done. My next mod will help me out with storage for stuff I would like to carry that I rarely would use. Question do you keep any extra oil, brake fluid, ... and how do you store a bow and I hope it arrows and how are you going to store your shotgun?

'S a good point... Vehicle fluids, fuel, belts, fix-a-flat, hoses, seafoam, de-icer, gloves, plugs... Maybe this list we're discussing also needs to be included in the bug out bag/get home bag thread? I bet all of it can go into a couple of ammo cans...

I keep my sword, cane, and bow right behind the back seat where i keep the collapsible chair. I plan to make a rack to bolt onto the back seat. Maybe i can find an old truck gunrack n use that?

Yep, a SWORD! The one i keep at home is he real folded steel deal. No taking chances on someone doing a snatch n grab on my baby blade. The one in the Tardis is a mall blade but i can make it rock. I'll eventually replace it with the set up from Blade so i can strap it on the seat back. Will make a fast draw interesting but it'll always be at hand. Remind me, one day, to tell the story about the sheriff's deputy asking if i had weapons in the vehicle...

Quoting myself, I have updated this list. I probably added more, but...this'll do for now.

Some more good info here.

BTW, shotty fits perfect under the rear seat. I'm going to make a lockable mount for mine. Have the .40 in a small gunvault under the front seat.
Dog food is a good idea. When out exploring, I always have his dogloo (water & food container) in tow, but I ought to carry a bit more just in case.
I don't have a sword, but a small battle axe is a must I think.
Gonna get a smaller solar panel setup for charging stuff, and I think I ought to get some rechargeable batteries/charger to go along with it. I already carry extra batteries. All flashlights/headlamps are LED.
Set of FRS radios left in the X is good. I always have two sets at home..
Boots, socks, shirt, sweatshirts, beanie always in there.
two sleeping bags, mat, pillow, tent, stove, 3 days freeze dried meals, lifeboat bars, water purification bottles & tablets. Always a pack of 6 lg bottles of water, changed out about every 6 mo.

My boxer has a purple outward hound backpack. She carries all doggy needs in it. Although, at her age now and being out of Montana and back in the desert, she doesn't get to go outward bound much anymore. Just for rides. Vador or Loki, the boy chihuahuas, go oot n aboot to hike it up.

These aren't bad but I prefer outward hound's gear or abogear.
